Narooma Hotel — Restaurant in Narooma

Pretty disappointed by our visit.

Positives first: I had a chicken parm which was very nice and I was quite impressed with their selection of beer! The service was also pretty good and friendly. Negatives: My wife ordered the fish curry which was on the specials list. For 32$, the flavour was pleasant but she received 1 piece of fish in the curry. Imagine ordering chicken curry and getting one piece of chicken? The piece was maybe 3cm x 5cm. That was it. And there wasn’t even enough sauce to cover 75% of the rice. There was more pieces of broccoli on the side then there was fish. Then there was the dessert, the chocolate ooze cake again, was pleasant enough. But the Mars Bar Cheesecake was such a let down. It was basically just caramel and chocolate flavoured mousse and didn’t resemble cheesecake at all. I know it’s a pub and they’re not known for their desserts, but to pay 16$ for a cheesecake, you’d expect to at least taste like cheesecake.

It wasn’t an awful experience by any means, but we did leave feeling very let down and...

Dearrrrrr GOD!! They have a FANTASTIC chef, and he knows his trade extremely well. So...I come in for dinner, and there's a dish I haven't seen (it's rare to see a new dish because they havent changed the menu in years!!). Anyway, it's Lamb Shoulder.. with eggplant puree, tabouleh and a beautiful mint tzatziki.. and let me tell you..it was freaking amazing!! Soooooo good in fact I told ppl about it, then headed back 2 days later for dinner. Ordered the "Lamb Shoulder".. went to get it and I'm like WTAF!! Staring at me was the goddam standard "pub grub " dish... some carrots, cauliflower, a chunk of broccoli and...instead of my gorgeous pink Lamb slices there was a pile of chunks... nothing...bland nothingness..just sitting there!! A once stunning dish...gone. "Oh" said the chef "the owner changed the menu"! So now the f** owner is a chef??? No... he isnt...let the f**chefs cook food, stop interfering!! Honestly, stupidest decision I've ever come across...so now it's back to the...

I have to admit; I didn’t want to go. I had been twice just over 2 years ago and was appalled with the food, and the wait times (it was under a different name…and I therefore assume management???)

This time round, was blown away. Bruschetta was on point 🙌 Kids meals were great size - our parents had pizza and fish and chips, said both were super tasty, and great portion sizes. We had schnitzels and were super impressed. They even did steamed veg and chippies with it…it’s practically my ultimate…and it was done PERFECTLY 🤩 The surf and turf at our table was also hailed a success. We didn’t wait all that long for meals to come out…and even though wine menu was limited, they were some really good drops, so I guess their theory is quality over quantity. Whoever has turned this place around has done a freaking fantastic job. Instead of wishing something better would crop up to appreciate that view now, we will be making a marked effort to stop in every chance we get. Great...
