Poor sign posts and viewing platform is very high and away from water. We thought we were going to do a mapped circuit around the river. We ended up (along with others) trying to follow the online map and on-trail signage. It was vague and confusing and only offered a couple of glimpses of the river on the challenging 5.2 km walk that is a circuit of the golf course, not the river. It was hard going and we had to double back to find the path again many times because of the bad bad signage. At the end when we find the sign saying we were 0.4km from the end of the 'circuit' we just came out at little road the other side of the golf course with Melany (where the circuit started), another 2.5km hike up and down a mountain away. Unless you are a local, we do not recommend. Google maps even got people lost and if you don't start the map at the beginning there is no service until you get back into Melany (if you make it). Awful experience. It has a big section of stairs at the farthest end so not for strollers or ambient. Also, they show signs for toilets ... not true! There are no toilets. The picnic spot is at least 1.5km from the shortest roadside distance with loads of stairs. Be prepared to carry...
Read moreNot really what we expected. Given it's called a "boardwalk" we envisaged more than the first 20-30m or so being actual boardwalk. The only bit is shown in my pictures, which runs from the main road to the next somewhat disappointing bit of the "boardwalk", which is a concrete pathway that runs nowhere near the creek at all. It's up through fields. It's pretty enough and pleasant for sure, just not what you'd reasonably expect given the description. Unfortunately, no platypus to be seen either after the walk there (not only because the creek is not visible from the pathway at all for about 80% of the circa 3km walk), but also because it seems there's slim to no chance of seeing them unless it's early morning or...
Read moreBit of a walk that starts down the hill from the town centre. The start of the track looks somewhat recently done up. Easy path to follow, with some stone art displays set up at regular intervals.
There is a Platypus viewing platform about a quarter of the way around, but if you go in the middle of the day, you're unlikely to see any (they'll be asleep). They're crepuscular, so best time to catch them will be dusk and dawn.
Path gets a little confusing a bit further on though, as it takes you through a golf course, and there's a bit of shared path, where golf buggies were driving past.
We turned back when we hit the course, but a good...
