Ophidiophobics might not make the Medusa their first choice of hotel in Sydney (the decor is very much on theme, with a particularly grim painting in the sitting room and a snake-haired bronze head in our room) but otherwise the place is without fault. There’s no lift, and we were on the top floor, but the delightful and effervescent Jesse welcomed us and wafted our two cases - a total of 37 kg! - up the stairs as if they contained nothing more than helium balloons and hummingbirds in flight. Thanks for your care and welcome!||The room was quiet and spotless and we valued the coffee pods and coffee bags, as well as a selection of tea bags. The complimentary Maltesers and wine were an unexpected blessing. The aircon was insistent that we check the menu in relation to some fault or other: no idea how even to start doing that, but the aircon worked so it can’t be a major issue. WiFi was fine. ||Comfortable bed but watch yourself on the frame - it’s wooden, has hard edges, and projects out beyond the mattress. Ouch, barked shin, but I doubt I’ll scar and it will teach me not to be careless. ||No food at the hotel - we recommend Rusty Rabbit for breakfast (the café, not as an ingredient) and Fortuna or Elettropizza for supper. But there are many many eateries close by in this vibrant suburb.||Travel to the hotel - whether from airport, Bondi or the harbour - is easy by bus or train: there’s a stop just outside for the half- hourly 511, but none of the other options are far away. If using Google Maps note the plethora of types of travel: T= train; L = light rail (tram); B = bus and M = metro. Depending on time of day some options are faster...

The hotel has been newly renovated so it was absolutely beautiful. Every room is eclectically decorated right down to the finest and most sensational detail. The wallpaper, carpet, beds, linen, EVERYTHING was outstanding. It was the perfect temperature, obviously double-glazed windows because it was completely peaceful once windows were sealed; water pressure was perfect; Aesop hair and body products were a delightful surprise; the Dyson hairdryers took it up a notch. The communal courtyard was stunning; as was the beautiful coffees/teas, filtered chilled water, and choc-tops available whenever you wish, as well as a beautiful fruit bowl filled with bananas and crisp and fresh apples. I travelled to Sydney with 2 colleagues to hold an event locally. The whole experience at this boutique hotel was absolutely beyond expectation, and the staff couldn't do enough to accommodate whatever wishes we had - whether it was offering to chill our alcohol (for an event we were holding externally), and organising the airport shuttle (which was half the cost of a taxi!). Oh, and we stayed when Sydney was inundated with torrential rain so umbrellas were offered complimentary. We can only imagine that the Medusa Hotel would be even MORE sensational if the weather was lovely, to fully take advantage of the retractable roof in the courtyard. We will DEFINITELY be booking again - every time we...
