Had such a lovely evening. I loved watching the bats flying over the screen as we waited for the sun to go down. And about 20 minutes into the film, a shooting star burned it's way through the sky, right above the screen. Couldn't have made it up. Sound quality was great and screen was big enough for the size of the venue. Subtitles were cut off the bottom of the screen a little during foreign speaking scenes, but not so much that you lost track of the plot. Slight adjustment of the projector and it would be perfect.
For those worried about being cold, food prices etc: both the website and follow up emails you receive after ticket purchase, contain suggestions for what to bring. They highly recommend you bring blankets for snuggling and they are more that happy for you to bring your own food and alcohol (there is security as you go in, so if you look young, make sure you bring ID).
Now this is coming from someone who works in hospitality. You will not be treated like the queen, because you are not the queen. You are a normal person, a mere mortal, just like those who are running the event and working on the night to make sure that you enjoy yourself. For the price of a ticket, compared to that of a standard cinema ticket, there's not a lot of difference! Yet they are providing you with a fantastic experience and their staff work harder and longer than you probably imagine.
For those whose expectations are ridiculous: you will not be sitting on literal gold grass made from the silk of opera singing spiders. Spoiler. People talking during a film is very rude, but to blame Moonlight Cinema is such a spoiled and petty thing to do. They will not come with tazers and teach the talkers a lesson. There are about 150 people at the screening; some bring children, dogs, that one person with an annoying laugh - they're all there to enjoy the outdoor film experience and everything that brings.
If you want a silent, temperature controlled environment with no interaction with others, for a similar price then step away and go to a regular cinema. If you want to experience a lovely evening out, watching a film under the stars, surrounded by like-minded people, book with Moonlight.
Good job, guys and girls at Moonlight. Keep...
Read moreBait and switch tactics with ticket refunds. Very dishonest, sneaky, underhanded organisation trying to shirk their own terms and conditions.
Wet weather policy says refunds will be issued if your tickets are for a show in the last month of programming. When I booked my tickets (February), there was no programming in the months to follow. Therefore, I came to the reasonable conclusion that I was buying a ticket in the last month of programming and would be refunded if my show was cancelled.
My show was cancelled, but they're refusing to provide a refund, stating that programming in March is COMING! Not that it's there (it still isn't) but that it's coming! You can see the image of the blank March calendar below.
I'm not sure how many of Moonlight Cinemas customers are psychics, but obviously quite a few given they expect people to operate on unknown, unpublished information about forthcoming programming when making a purchase. Unfortunately I am not a psychic and had no way of knowing that my ticket was not in the final month of programming, nor that it was ineligible for a refund.
Long story short: Moonlight Cinema are scam artists and will try hold you accountable for information you have no way of knowing (unless you are a literal psychic). Buyer beware - and be prepared to go to Fair Trading, because they are absolute CLOWNS to deal with via email.
UPDATE: they are still playing silly deceptive games claiming they cannot refund Dine and Discover vouchers. This is a flagrant lie. Below is a screenshot of the Dine and Discover T&Cs for businesses, which explicitly states they can refund vouchers. Do not let these lowlife thieves steal your money. They also run Event Cinemas, which I will be avoiding...
Read moreYou can easily see how they're just here to make money. Exact same experience as someone wrote a few comments down. We had regular tickets and sat down on the steps after the VIP demarcation. It was lovely, we arrived more than 1h30 early so we could enjoy our time all together. A few people did as we did and sat down on the step. The movie was about to start and only then someone came to us to ask us to move up as the stairs we reserved for VIP holder tickets and that we were too close to the VIP section. It wasn't fair to them since they had paid VIP price to be on the middle section of the stairs. I can confidently say that we were all shocked and even if we tried to explain to them that no one had said anything to us earlier or that the section was clearly demarcated a few feet away from us. A very rude manager name Hannah literally asked us "if we needed help to move our things" as we were trying to argue our case. No room for conversation whatsoever and the people from VIP couldn't care less where we were sitting. The only way to sit there was to pay an extra $25 each. We were on the side, there was room, no one was bothered by our presence. This was absolutely pointless and ruined the evening for us. Definitely not coming back, not recommending to anyone and would prefer choosing another type of outdoor cinema. You won't continue long if you don't realise people are here to have a good time and not be told they haven't paid enough to sit...
