Still (incredibly affordable) harbourside brilliance. Want to swim in salt water without waves (nor shark risk)? Come here! Not in a swimming mood but know you need “long overdue” Vitamin D whilst drinking GOOD coffee (made on site) & flipping through a mag & / or reading a few pages of a short story collection? Same! And if you do decide to swim (which I definitely recommend & think you very likely will! - it’s a wonderful sunny day experience), you can shower on site after swimming b4 “putting your everyday garb back on” then catching a bus or a ferry “back to reality”. This wonder takes less than 30mins on public transport from CBD. I’ve been coming here since coming to Sydney in 1995 - Stupid me hasn’t done it often enough in the last decade (changing that this Summer!).
PS: You may get to meet astonishing people here. I will never forget the “close to or on” Christmas Day I had with a friend here, having a picnic & a swim, in the very early 2000s. Guess who sat next to us on the hill, also on a blanket? The BRILLIANT Jennifer Byrne! With her young son. And she was happy to talk with us “2 young gay boys” as we “basically worshipped her at her alter” 😂😂😂. Jennifer was such a “real human being with ZERO attitude” in real life. And her son seemed very happy. We made sure we “left them alone to have family time” after about 5 mins, but it was 5 mins of “getting to talk with someone amazing” I will never forget...
Read moreI've been to this pool last summer more than 3 times. Last summer was extremely hot and everywhere was crowded bacause Sydney is one of the popular seaside city. Apparently, there are calm and nice beach here and there, but personally I think Murray rose pool is pretty efficient beach. The beach area is not really wide, but they have one cafe which is serving chips, and shower facility, of course toilet as well. The condition is very clean and managed well. To get there, although I had to take a train and transfer once by bus, I prefer there. The most favorite part is there are fence in the sea. I am not good at swimming, so it makes me feel safety. Additionally, on top of the fence is actually wooden deck, so you could dive or jump into the sea from the deck. I am definitely gonna go to there in next summer, and I recommend...
Read moreWhat a cool concept! Not necessarily a pool, per se, but an area of the harbor that has been sectioned off with a fence to keep out sharks (and boats?). Murray Rose Pool is definitely an interesting place to visit and worth the stop if you’re in the neighborhood. Named after the famous Australian Olympian, this pool/beach has a small sandy area, some shaded benches to sit on, a really pretty view, and a walkway on the fence surrounding the “pool.” There’s also an outdoor shower and a cafe up a flight of stairs.
Docking one point bc although it’s a nice place to visit, I can’t imagine the water would be that clean given all the boats nearby. Otherwise,...
