I was so excited that a Spotlight was opening in the local area. The location is easily accessible with ample parking. The layout of the shop makes it easy to navigate (for the most part). A lot of effort appears to have been put into ensuring the environment is tidy and organised.

Unfortunately, this is where my positive experience with Spotlight Alexandria ends. As a regular customer at the store for both small business and personal reasons (fabric mostly), I am becoming very hesitant to purchase from this particular location.

A certain staff member in this department with blonde hair is possibly one of the rudest individuals I’ve ever come across. She literally scolds customers and I’ve personally experienced this more than once.

On one occasion she was questioning me over marked down fabric, which had faults throughout it (as stated on the tag). Another occasion, a friendly and accommodating staff member allowed me to take 8 empty rolls to put fabric on (each 8 metres a piece) that I’d purchased in the last week. I’ve spent thousands at this store/online over the last year. After lecturing me she then went off to no doubt berate her poor, accommodating fellow team member.

Customers shouldn’t be treated as impositions. The customer service here is just not it. I’d encourage Spotlight to look into who they hire and review their behaviour because this individual is a liability for your company and I’m confident I’m not the only person who has experienced this...

Purchased a $1000 Semco embroidery machine on the 20/10/21, while on special. Within two weeks the plastic embroidery hoop, an integral part of the machine, cracked making it useless. On returning to the store to ask about replacement parts or purchasing another hoop the staff were thoroughly disinterested. '

To be clear the machine seems to be of good quality and I was not seeking to return it, simply to have a part that had failed replaced, or available to purchase (it is so flimsy it appears to be almost a consumable item). Rather than offering any form of customer service I was told to contact Semco direct. Aida' in particular was more interested in explaining the exclusions to the 28 day return policy than showing any interest or concern about the machine failing within such a short time. Her help extended to giving me the phone number of Semco Earthmoving equipment, a completely unrelated company that laughed when I enquired about sewing machines!

In summary - Good machine but don't expect any local support and think hard about buying anything from Spotlight Alexandria as the staff don't seem interested in working to...

Amending my review today 21/8/25 WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER from Anthony!!! He was extremely rude and if I ever see him in store I will just leave. I cannot believe a person can behave as he did. Sighing at the fact that he has to just do his job. I didn’t think caring about customers could be made out to be SUCH a chore. I actually needed to buy more things but ended up just leaving. I would rather pay more elsewhere and buy online.

Past review. I do love spotlight for its inspiration of creative ideas. On my last visit I picked up some curtains and curtain rails that would work in my rental. A staff member then came over to tell me the rods I have won’t work with my curtains without asking for more details about the space. He actually took the rods off me and put them back telling me to go get something else. As soon as he turned his back I got what I knew would work (my initial choice) and guess what…it did. The curtains look stunning and I’m glad I followed my own informed knowledge of what works and what doesn’t. Staff please don’t come over and interfere when help...

Spent $8000 on custom made curtains for a 2br unit…paid 50% deposit Sept 2024. You must pay 50 % deposit then 50% in full or they won’t install the curtains (red flag) . Installed Jan 2025. 2 months later than agreed. The two months overdue and asking when I will get my curtains… crickets. The sheers were overlocked… not even a hem, that are uneven and were wrong size! Like 1/3rd of width for every room… They lost the other panels somehow on the install date. No one knew where the block out curtains were either! When they installed the block out curtains, along with the missing sheets, at a later date they were the wrong size again… too wide!!! Whilst they offered to send a state manager up from Melbourne that would have been their at least 8th visit to rectify … I pulled the pin and gave up… Absolute nightmare to deal with. I’m the idiot who payed 8k in full up front for crap curtains. My bad. Never again. Don’t do it!

This is my first time at this Spotlight store and never had an experienced almost all the staff (except one lovely lady) having a bad case of the ā€œover itā€ and ā€œdone with itā€ attitude. As customers we just want to come in and get the right information for our projects. I witnessed attitude / lack of patience at almost every section of the store, from customers at the cloth cutting station trying to chose the right fabric and length to the kitchenware (except for the nice lady I mentioned doing the pricing) and at the checkout staff because of card / payment issues. I swear their efptos may need replacement / updating / cleaning the 2 I tested had what appeared as mould. Probably that’s why the readers couldn’t charge the card perhaps. As the checkout, this is the last touch point of customer experience and the impression that lasts when you leave the store. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Ben took these roller blinds to the checkout served by Finn who was so kind and payient in serving us and put the blinds into a trolley i found in the carpark. My sppreciation to these gentlemen in serving the customers. They are precious asset of Spotlight. Please pass on my gratitude to them. Joseph & Kathryn
