South Dowling Sandwiches Alexandria — Restaurant in Sydney

We’ve been wanting to try South Dowling Sandwiches for a while now but because it’s only open Monday- Friday, that’s been a challenge when we don’t work nearby. We took the opportunity on a day off to visit.

Knowing it’s popularity, we ordered online which was awesome because it meant they were ready on arrival.

Now you can get a sandwich pretty much anywhere these days, but these are more than just your regular sandwich. They are massive gourmet sandwiches, on the softest, freshest bread ever! You can get some of their listed options or alter them on the order if there’s something you can’t eat.

We ordered the “Jimmy Sandwich” on brown bread (you can opt brown or white) with Chilli chicken, lettuce, avocado, caramelised carrot, cucamber, spanish onion, rocket & red pesto. We added some pickles. A delicious and huge sandwich that kept us full for hours.

Some other examples include sandwiches with Veggies, chicken schnitzel, ham, poached chicken, smoked salmon and even special add ons of caramelised carrot or potato salad.

There’s also salads served in little takeaway boxes if you prefer. Salads are dressed with a light balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

“The Paisano” Let me start off by saying, I’m not big on sandwiches. But this isn’t just a sandwich, it’s a meat fueled symphony of Italian sandwich engineering excellence, it came it hot like it owned the place.

First bite? I blacked out and saw a vision of my ancestors nodding in approval from the heavens, came back ten minutes later for more with every bite feeling like I was being hugged by four different grandmothers with strong seasoning skills & emotional baggage.

By the time I finished it, I wasn’t sure if I’d eaten a sandwich or experienced a religious awakening. Service so fast they were calling out my name before I had a chance to sit down. We've always wanted to try your sandwich, and we finally got the chance during our Sydney trip—totally worth the wait! The spicy sandwich 🥪(The Biatch) was absolutely delicious—packed with flavour and just the right kick of heat. Honestly, we haven't found anything like it elsewhere. The bread was super soft too, which made it even better.

The Chicken Schnitzel Salad 🥗 was so refreshing, and both the brownie and muesli were spot-on—yummy and satisfying. I'm dying for their specially cooked carrots 🥕 too. Everything tasted really fresh, from the mains to the sweet treats. Oh, and the cappuccino☕️? Smooth and well-balanced—perfect way to wrap up the meal.
