Fantastic Ski School. If you seriously want to learn to ski well, to enjoy the slopes, to be safe and competent this is the place for you. Private and small group lessons are their main work and it shows. Worth every cent.
My 5th week on the slopes ever and I am safely managing Moguls like they are not there, have not fallen over, manage black runs well and starting to look like I know how to Ski!!
I’m 45 and love the slopes now.
This week I was with Ben, a lovely local gent of 20 who has a background in competitive off piste sport, but was confident, reassuring and helpful with a fresh perspective and very positive approach. His calm and clear direction and good technique worked well as I developed and built on the good work already done with School Habeler and I was very very pleased at where I was after 3 days of lessons. I also got to see Peter Habeler famous for his incredible achievements and wonderful adventures!!!
From two years ago for context;
Determined to improve on last year, I again booked private lessons with Bjorn. I was really worried all my work last year would be forgotten but no. Somehow on day one during the course of my two hour lesson, I was already moving past last year and onward.
Bjorn developed my skiing and helped my understanding by using simple explanations to help me progress, for example he asked be to imagine there was 'advertising on the bottom of my skis' to help me dig my edges in while turning! Simple. Clear. Memorable. He coached me all the time watching and being so positive. I never did anything wrong! Always working to get it right! And such fun. We did some wonderful runs, my safety and comfort a priority and at the same time the encouragement to work and improve saw me on a black at the end of week two.
Loved it. Mayerhofen is exceptional, I'm travelling with experienced skiers who've been everywhere from Wengen to Val D'isere and our last day here was collectively our best ski day ever, at all levels.
'My review a year ago for context and reference; exceptionally brilliant experience. My first week on ski's on snow, and this school was perfect for me. My instructor Bjorn was patient, positive, encouraging, and everything you would want from a consummate and skilled professional imparting knowledge and information and helping one to learn a new skill. His ability to explain what I needed to do, to help me, to show and instruct so well has seen me progress from nursery slope to Red Run in 5 days. It;s hard work, lessons every day and practice every afternoon, but so much fun to learn and such an achievement.. I was DREADING doing this. And now I can ski, calmly, confidently, and most importantly, safely. It has been so much fun now. I cannot recommend the school highly enough. To be clear. I am 42. I do no activities, I consider myself unfit, and have not been on ski's on snow before. This has been an exceptionally brilliant experience, and while Mayrhofen is beautiful, my time here has been amazing thanks to Bjorn my instructor at Skischul Habeler and Chris...
Read moreThis was my first time ever in the mountains and skiing. I started the season by following a three-day class at another ski school (not Habeler’s). I met Habeler’s instructors on my first lesson with that other school, because it was one of Habeler’s instructors who helped one of our group’s member that was paralyzed with fear. I also noticed how Habeler’s uniforms are easy to find while on the slopes (as opposed to the larger school which I kept losing sight of my instructor because their uniform blends in with regular ski gear). On my second day lesson, it was my turn to getting freezed by fear. After not being able to stop after picking up speed, I panicked and needed many minutes until I could pick my self up (mentally and physically). That day I decided to step out the class and practice a bit more with the help of my partner. The following day I went to Habeler’s office and booked a two-hour private ski lesson. I told them about my experience and how much I was struggling with fear while skiing, and they matched me with Sophie - an encouraging, patient and experienced instructor who taught me how to control my skis :) This of course increased my confidence, which increased my ability. In a two-hour lesson I went from being terrified going down the children’s area to skiing slope 28 with her. After our private session was finished, I went down slope 28 twice with my boyfriend, another time all by myself, and also slope 14 (again with my boyfriend). Needless to say that those two hours with Sophie taught me much more than a day and a half with the previous larger group. Next year, I’ll go straight into Habeler so I can make the most of...
Read moreStrongly recommend this ski school!!
It is located at the top of Penkenbahn (just buy the ski pass from the ticket desk. Then take the gondola straight up). The school is located left side after exiting Penkenbahn, only a minute walk away down a little slope (though you might be in the very heavy ski boots).
Chris has been very nice and chilled. I am a first timer to skiing and Mayrhofen (coming all the way from Asia), getting very excited but anxious.
He has been VERY patient with my MANY questions before/after booking, including what gears I need to borrow (safety helmets and gloves etc), where to meet, how to get ski pass, and even things not concerning his teaching like the best place to collect gears and restaurants available at the top of the hill. He has even offered storage space during skiing and after his lesson (which he allows us to store our bags).
Before we started the class, my friend lost one of her gloves and Chris is so sweet to offer to find it around the station while we proceed on our class first.
The lesson 2hr was good! I learnt and start skiing already! Though I didn’t get a chance to learn from Chris directly, his instructor (Feela, not sure if spelled correctly) has been very kind and patient and sweet in helping my friend as much (even offered to “pull” her up the slope) possible when my friend fell many times.
Thank you Chris and team! The experience at Mayrhofen wont be great...
