On September 16, 1638, Emperor Ferdinand III allowed the Servite Order to found a monastery in Vienna.

Inspired by Italian architect Andrea Palladio, the church of the Servites was built by Martin Carlone and dedicated to the Annunciation to the Virgin. The foundation stone was laid on November 11, 1751 and the church was consecrated in 1760 though the interior decoration was completed later.

The most important work of art in the church is the "Pietà" at the altar of Our Lady of Sorrows. The tomb of general Ottavio Piccolomini, who was an active patron of the church, is located under this altar. Another patron of the church was Baron Christoph of Abele who donated the...

It is beautiful silent church full of light. Interior is freshly renovated by Italian group of professionals. Gilded elements are glossy, walls are perfectly clean and altars sparkle with colours reflecting light. Every altar in this church is special - with different design and form. Round central plan of church makes you feel special and very festive. At right side small chapel in...

Aug24- promised more than it delivered but it was quiet and empty. A church. Ornate and showing the wealth of churches, pope visited it said. Wonderfully central and clearly a good aura. Loved the new whispy images created.
