The first thing we encountered upon opening the door to our room was a total mess, wet footprints coming from the bathroom, and dirt on the floor. Getting past the miniature hallway into the bedroom revealed pubic hair on the unmade beds, and pillows (also hairy) with no covers on them. There was trash in the drawers and on the windowsill with boot prints on the walls below. When we went to the desk they said “we can change the sheets tomorrow” but offered no other recourse. Thankfully our guide was able to get us switched to a room that was actually cleaned.
The key cards consistently stop working after a day or two and they cannot seem to make you more than 2 functional keys. If your rooms “accommodate” up to 4 people this is a major issue.
The common area is always filled with loud children, and the communal kitchen has not been cleaned since we arrived last week.
BEWARE the light fixtures were hung by someone who clearly didn’t think at all and are at the perfect height to knock you on your ass if you’re not careful. I’m relatively short, shorter than the rest of my group and even I manage to keep finding lights to hit my head on.
I did it again this morning AS I WAS WRITING THIS PARAGRAPH.
The desk staff hides in the back even during peak service hours and it takes upwards of 15 minutes to get service at either the check in desk or the bar on the other side. When you do finally get one of them to put out their cigarette and come back inside, they treat you like an inconvenience instead of a customer.
We’ve had multiple instances where we were playing cards in the bar area when it was quieter and the staff just shut off the lights above us.
The only positive things I have to say are that the one kind woman at the desk was nice enough to share her personal lighter, and that the kebab place down the street is cheap and tasty.
We knew coming in: this hotel was a budget option, but if you’re here for a good time, spend the extra and go somewhere else.
This is all in stark contrast to the Meininger we just visited in Budapest, which for the same nightly rate offered 100x the facilities and service (shout out my man ben)
There are corporate policies, however there does not seem to be the same level of oversight at...
Read moreWorst service ever. The staff, especially the girl receptionist, is extremely rude, unreasonable, unfair and clearly racist (towards italians at least). No one obliges the hotel to accept groups of students, if you take our reservation and check us in you MUST AT LEAST treat us fairly and politely. The very first night she took a speech (on the top of a chair) with an attitude and saying "if you don't look at me in the eyes I will make you feel uncomfortable" and "we have already had bad experiences with groups, especially, it won't surprise you, with Italians 😃😃😃"(yes, with the rudest smirk). We have been considered responsible for other groups making noise (even tho we could prove it was not us) just because we are a group of italians. The second night we asked for the pool cues that should have been available for all guests until 22.00, the receptionist said "no because I'm upset". We came back to her and asked for an explanation at least, she kept saying "no cuz u made me upset" completely ignoring the fact it was not us "being loud" because we weren't even in the structure when she was bothered by the noise. We kept asking politely and pointed out it was an unfair behaviour and she responded "no cues because I said no, because you made me upset" with the meanest snobbish attitude ever. And when we came back with our teachers again after being treated so badly she said we were bothering her because we were insisting and "conversation is over because I said so". You are not even free to smoke silently or barely talking outside of the hotel: a member of the staff came outside and said "it's already been 20 min you're out here, you don't need so long to smoke please come inside" even tho we weren't making any noise. In addition, food is horrible and some rooms are dusty. I can't even write here all of the bad experiences we had with the receptionist and the staff in general, she even threatened us. Just don't go there (especially if you're...
Read moreEverything with Meininger Hotel is great. Starting from Reception where youll find pleasant and helpful staff to make you feel welcome right from the start. There is a bar around reception that works non stop which is great plus fridge with Austrian beer in it which is even better, there are snacks also and soft drinks but who cares when you have nice cold bottle of beer to soothe you after day spent sightseeing. Hallways to rooms and rooms themselves are spotlessly clean and designed just enough not to be sterile but not to be to colorful and kitsch either. I was in a single private room and i must say I was pretty amazed. Everything inside was neat and organized, bathroom was spotlessly clean and wifi worked better than in some four star hotels Ive been around Europe and Austria. Mind you I was on top floor but nevertheless wifi signal was constantly on full strength, so well done on positioning routers around hotel guys. Beds are comfy, fresh linen and towels is there, enough room to put your wardrobe and everything you brought on a trip with you, heating/air conditioning buzzing perfectly. There is a breakfast you can buy for 6.90 euros which is ok, but maybe, and this is just maybe, breakfast could have more diverse food, but then again, I usually skip the breakfast and even in bigger hotels rarely find something interesting to eat in the morning, so this is just my biased opinion, maybe for other people breakfast in Meininger is diverse enough. And I am saying all this about breakfast just so this wont be only praise to the hotel, so they wont spoil. All in all, I stayed in a variety of hotels, hostels, apartments etc. on my travels, but this Meininger hotel is for every recommendation and I it will be definitely my number one place to stay when I am in...
