It's one of the most known places in Brussels for people to sit back on the stairs whilst admiring Brussels, if you go to the top of the stairs you might have a very beautiful view (similar to "Place Poelaert"). One of the most iconic places in Brussels, with a long floral garden and views of the city hall tower. The cube-shaped glass building adds a modern element to the area’s traditional architecture.
Some history folks: From being a block with houses, King Leopold II bought the area at the end of the 19th century. He began a total makeover and destroyed all the old houses on the hill. When the houses were gone, also his finances were ruined and the area became a forgotten project. So, Brussels had this ugly place between the Royal Palace and the Grand Palace and they really had to do something. Decades later, in 1910, the area was converted to a park.
