Another amazing tour from the same group as in Sofia! These guys have a magic formula - young, enthusiastic, engaging and intelligent guides! Nenko was fantastic and we learned so much from him about Plovdiv during our two hours. He provided personal insights, anecdotes, bad jokes, heaps of information, historical background to Plovdiv, as well as recommendations for things to see (for example, the roman ruins under the H & M store) and places to eat. We really enjoyed this fast-paced tour (it was hot so not too fast and we always stopped for brief chats in the shade!). A tip at the end of the tour for these guides is always appreciated :) Thank you, Nenko! After the free Plovdiv welcome tour, we returned the following day for the Soviet Architecture Tour. The focus on this tour was on the art, design and architecture within the historical context of the city and not so much on the political side of things. Daniel, our guide, was terrific! He kept us moving and showed us so many examples of the different styles of architecture. The tour was fantastic and we thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, we retraced our steps later in the day, took more photos and had fun working out the style of each building for ourselves. Daniel answered the group’s many questions and was really fun and engaging. One of the best things about the day was being able to go inside a few of the sites, for example the Post Office and the Library (who remembers the old card catalogues in the drawers as in Breakfast at Tiffany’s??!). We really enjoyed this tour and Daniel gave us recommendations for others things to do and see - a wonderful tour! The guides always appreciate a tip at the end - totally worth...

We were told a few things that contradicted information I had already found out about: eg. combination ticket lasts 24 hours and includes art galleries, but it's actually 48 and does not. I feel like this is an easy thing to get right? apparently there was a secret for for Hindliyan house residents to escape to balabanov house in the 16-17th centuries... However those houses were built in the 19th century 🤔 we were also told the chariot races in the stadium were straight not in laps because they couldn't turn... Yet at the stadium 3D film we learned that they usually did 7 laps.
Anyway overall if I had not known these things I would have enjoyed it more, I just went away from it not knowing which were actually facts and...
