SEPHORA — Attraction in Abbotsford

So I have been to this Sephora about 5-6 times since it first opened, and every single time I have gone, I have never been helped properly - or, actually, even treated properly. I've probably wasted about $100 in total, all on foundation, because the girls here don't know how to match you with the perfect shade of foundation. But you know what - I'm not a petty person, I've let it go; I've taken it upon myself to go to other locations, for example the Surrey one, where they actually hire people who know what they're doing. But today I probably had the worst customer service experience EVER in my whole 21 years - and no, I am not being in the least bit dramatic. So before you decide to waste your time at this Sephora, let me tell you how rude and conceited some of the employees working here are. I went to Sephora today with my younger sister - it's a Tuesday afternoon, so it's not too busy. I was looking for a foundation and I needed one ASAP so I didn't have time to go to Surrey. I should have known better though, but for some reason I thought hey, maybe I've had bad experiences before and it won't be that bad today.

Anyway, we go inside Sephora, I go up to the make-up counter where I see a Sephora employee. She's cleaning brushes, looking down; so I stand there, waiting for her to notice me, cause if she just glanced up she would see me standing behind her. Two three minutes tick by, she doesn't glance up. And at this point I kind of felt like she was TRYING to ignore me... Whatever, I just said "Excuse me, I need someone's help to match me with Colour IQ; I'm looking for a new foundation." She goes: "Okay, it'll be about 5-10 minutes, you can look around until then." So I go sure, no problem, I'm not in a hurry. My sister and I look around for a bit and then the same girl approaches me and goes "So you need to be matched with a foundation?" and I confirm yes, so she takes me to the make up counter where she seats me. Then she proceeds with the Colour IQ machine and asks me what type of skin I have. I tell her combination because I'm mostly oily in my T-Zone and dry in other areas. And at this particular time, I was breaking out pretty badly on my cheeks because of my period. So she goes and grabs 2 Nars foundations. She goes on to try on both of them, side by side, and she doesn't blend it in or anything, just applies it like she's painting my face. I held up a mirror to my face and I could tell right away that it wasn't my shade; I asked my sister for confirmation and we both agreed that it was too light and ashy for my skin. So I tell the girl this and she looks at me blank-faced and tells me that my Colour IQ didn't match me up with any foundations, just powders. I tell her again that the foundation she tried is too ashy and applies weird. She then has the nerve to say to me: "Well, how it applies depends on your skin." So she out-rightly and very bluntly insulted the condition of my skin like an insensitive jerk. I chose to ignore this and take out this L'Oreal foundation I'm currently using. I tell her that this is my perfect colour and maybe she can find something similar. Again, she looks blank-faced and she pushes the screen of the Colour IQ results towards me and says: "Your Colour IQ didn't match you up with any foundations - just powders" as if I didn't understand the first time. My sister suggests that Laura Mercier (a brand I love and have used before) usually has my shade and maybe she should try those. So she grudgingly goes and picks out 2 Laura Mercier foundations. She comes back with the 2 shades and paints those on too, side by side. My sister likes one of them and after inspecting, I think one of them fits me pretty well. While we're doing this, the girl does not give any feedback, doesn't ask me how I like it, doesn't even have the audacity to offer to look for other shades if I don't like this one. At this point I'm pretty pissed off so I take the foundation I want and walk away.

Like I said, WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. Don't go here. Find...

This location is just brutal. I came here two weeks ago needing new foundation and a palette. Got no help, everyone just ignored me like they don't see I'm standing there waiting for help, even though they aren't helping anyone else and store is dead. I probably could of blown a whistle and no one would have batted an eye. LIKE PREVIOUS REVIEWERS MENTIONED.....Do not walk in there without makeup on or they won't give you the time of day. Go in dressed in your best, maybe wear 10lbs of diamonds? I finally asked if one girl could help me, I told her I got a sample of a foundation in the mail that I loved but it wasn't the right colour. So she grabbed ONE colour option for me, put on my neck and asked what I thought. I couldn't see anything so I said I guess that might work. She gave me a sample not caring to try and confirm a colour match or even try another shade and I'm glad I brought the sample home to try on because the colour is soooo off. I later compared the sample she gave me to the foundation I currently use and was professionally matched for, and the colours are two completely different tones!! So I went back in today, hoping I just had bad luck in the past and hoping someone could help me buy foundation and an eyeshadow palette and ....one again, had the same experience....3 girls wouldn't even make eye contact with me. Not one person asked if I needed help, sitting there clearly looking lost and needing help waiting for someone. They weren't busy helping anyone either. Then the one staff member that ignored me walks right past me to ask another woman if she needs help finding anything today!!!!! This woman she asked wasn't even looking at her or trying to get her attention and was simply touching a product (which I also did multiple times with no help)! I finally just grabbed the $60 palette I hope will suit me and once again left with no foundation!!! The cashier was so sweet and wonderful, and when she asked if I found everything I said yes because I didn't want to have her have to bother the girls in the front makeup department sitting around twiddling their thumbs and have to come over and confront them. Guess I'll make the drive to Surrey or Vancouver just to get help with foundation. Can I make a suggestion? Every person in there working should be making sure every customer looking has been looked after and wanting to help them find products...

Does not live up to the hype imo. Clean, lots of product. It's about sale of products here and not about helping the client get what they are looking for. So to edit this as not seeing a way to add a new one. I bought a product that the sales rep was more than confident that I would be satisfied. Ringing in around 40.00 the 30 day money back assured me it would leave me happy. It did not live up to what it said. Not water proof, was not at all happy at all. I went to go take it back when I finally had time and it was closed and would not open for close to an hour. So, I come back when I was finally able to carve out the time as my schedule is so so so busy ( like most of us ) Nope, no money back as I was past the 30 days. ZERO RESPECT - offered someone to take the time to help, like I wanted to waste more time with someone who is only interested in keeping up with what the expectations are from a corporate level - not what the consumer wants or needs. I did get a store credit. That was the best they could do. REFUSED to seek further or see if they could make something work. THIS IS A MISLEADING COMPANY WHO IS NOT IN BUSINESS FOR YOU. Go to a small boutique or reputable place that actually does care about the people not the image they are busy working to impress in that wave of $$$ and status. Now, I am grateful to get the money back (that is a lie as it is a gift card) but it is not something I will spend so will be a gift to someone who does like this sort of place. I use my consumerism as my power for who I like to support. This place has lost any hope for me. It is pretentious and dishonourable and will not shop there ever again and will def share my views beyond here when the opportunity comes. The best part here - you will note on all (and there are a lot of them huh!! ;) They take zero time to correct things, they simply ask you to contact them and suggest they will attempt to help.
