Translation: We are delaying our Alpine Opening to Dec 5th, weather permitting. Mother Nature is taking her time this year to blanket the resort with our early season base. Our crews are working hard to bring you an amazing 2025/26 season and we will be ready for when the snow comes! ❄️ In the meantime, do those snow dances 🕺🏼 #skisilverstar #silverstarmountainresort

Summer time fun!! What a beautiful view... pretty much everywhere! Lots of things to see and fresh air to enjoy. One of the days we were there, the weather was shifting from hail to sun to thick cloud cover to intense rain... all within 30 minutes! High mountain weather for you, impressive to witness.

Caution: expect high prices everywhere, it’s a resort... what else should we expect?! Restaurant prices seem to be around $50 for a couple (plenty closed during the week though), $189.99 for a hoodie (then there’s taxes!)... even “clearanced” clothing is still quite highly priced compared to clothing stores down in the valley. Meh... it’s the experience you’re enjoying not the deals right?

For the record, I would have given five out of five stars if it wasn’t for the high prices everywhere or poor bike rental experience. Glad you asked about the mountain bike experience. Here, let me tell you about it...

The biggest frustration for us was the mountain bike rentals. We’d planned to have a morning of riding cross country style but the rental “insurance” is incredibly sketchy. They kept pressuring us to buy the extra $15 worth of coverage each. Your rental fee DOESN’T cover regular wear and tear... according to three of the bike managers/staff nothing covers that. So that’s why you need to get the extra, wait... but the extra insurance doesn’t seem to actually cover any damage from regular use either! We inquired as to what things could happen to the bike that we’d be required to pay for the repairs and we were told that flat tires, chain derailer misalignment (keep in mind, those are regular wear and tear things that happen with normal use) to brakes cables snapping or severe frame bending/damage (carbon frames can snap at a minor defect through manufacturing) were all on us.

Asking for more information about it, they could only show us a picture of a bike with overpriced repairs listed. $30+ to replace an inner tube?

After that discussion (as to what was included/covered with the rental fee to what we would be required to pay for) we were scared to even touch any of the bikes. They basically ended up saying anything that happens would be our responsibility. Even damage from previous uses.

Luckily, getting a hiking...

Great bike park, fantastic experience on the mountain. The kids are really levelling up with the progression through the blues and blacks.

Rental shop killed the experience unfortunately. My son is just outgrowing his 20 inch commencal, and the bigger features on pipe dream required a 24” full suspension.

Day 1, rental bike and setup was great. Day 2, we rented the same bike, but it was not setup at all. We took 3 trips to the shop to attempt corrections. Bike continued to bottom out hard on the rear, no matter the corrections the shop made. Consider also that we only rode 7 laps of the park in a full day, so 3 trips to the shop is pretty frustrating. Day 3 when we picked up the bike I was told that there was nothing wrong on Day 2, and that I should stop messing with the suspension settings, as I was adjusting things backwards. At no time did I adjust anything, so this was pretty disheartening to hear, as it sounded like the shop believed it was my fault?

Lesson learned, while the rental bikes are high quality, the service department, and rental department are not. No offers of a discounted rental on the second or third day, nothing was done to make it right.

Knocked down my 5 star experience to a 3, at best.

update The rental shop has been in contact, and has made everything right, even offering a refund for the rental. I trust the experience will be far better moving forward. Excellent customer service team, and perhaps just a bad day from an employee.

Well done...

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with the customer service policies here. While I understand that refunds due to weather conditions may not be possible, I encountered an entirely different issue that left me extremely disappointed.

After patiently waiting in line for a staggering two hours for the lift to re-open, my party and I were denied access to the lift simply because we were not racers. This information was only communicated to us when we reached the front of the line, leaving us frustrated and confused.

To further compound our disappointment, when we approached the desk to express our concerns, we were informed that this rule had been implemented a mere two minutes after we purchased our day passes. This lack of transparency and the failure to notify us in a timely manner is highly unprofessional.

Despite these circumstances, we were not offered any form of monetary reimbursement for the tickets we had purchased. This lack of compensation for our wasted time and inability to enjoy the park is deeply unsatisfactory.

I strongly urge you to reevaluate your customer service policies. Clear communication and fair treatment of customers should be a priority. It is essential that steps are taken to rectify this situation and ensure that other riders do not encounter similar disappointments...
