Horrible experience. Highly unsafe and risk of injury. Lack of rules being followed. Unprofessional manner in which the issue was handled by the oncourt staff. Won't return unless there is a proper resolution for the issue and incidents such as today don't happen again.
Was here during the 3.40pm slot where there were 12 racers in the same race causing overcrowding of the track. 2 of the racers (1 adult in particular) who were extremely aggressive, were bumping into the other racers on purpose, when it clearly mentions on the rule board that it is against the rules. There were zero instructions given at the start of the race which made it okay for some to assume that braking isn't required at all, making the overall experience highly unsafe and unpleasant for other racers. Rules are a joke here. There was 1 racer (an adult male wearing a black motor cross helmet with an overhead flap) who crashed into my cart on purpose during one of the rounds which caused my cart to overspin. Didn't apologize and just carried on as if nothing happened. He repeated the same with another person after a few rounds (final lap) which caused that racer's cart to bounce over mine and landed on my right foot and was stuck on court till a staff member had to physically lift the cart off my foot. When both of us were stranded on court due to the incident brought it to the attention to the oncourt staff, they said they will have a word with the concerned person after the race. Both of us even pointed out the person but we could see that the man was let go without any sort of confrontation by the staff. When I spoke to the staff at the oncourt desk about the incident it was appalling to see how casually he brushed it off saying "the person has already left so there is nothing he can do about this." These were his exact words. I even spoke to the manager about the safety concern as it could very well have caused a serious injury that you wouldn't expect with this sort of establishment, which is charging quite high fees for the races. They have all the details about - which person is seated in which cart number, their name, age, etc. and can address the issues then and there as they are expected to keep a watch on the races while they happen. The manager said he will be looking at the footage and contacting me about it. The staff were not even called to discuss the issue. Since I escalated the issue, for race #2 they got one staff member to address everyone at the start and the guy was extremely rude with a bad attitude. He even instructed one of the girls who was in my group to enter the pit stop after her cart was stuck after a self-crash into the barricade, while the other staff member didn't know why she entered the pit stop and in the process she lost valuable time in her race leading to a bad experience for her as well.
Overall it is extremely disappointing as it is managed very poorly on busy days. Race carts also differ in performance as some have debris from tyres and the body is quite wobbly. Maybe they should reconsider the number of racers based on the competence of the staff and capacity they can manage rather than just aiming to maximize their income out of cramping racers as much as they can.
I encourage the manager / owner to look at the footage and contact me (as promised by the oncourt manager after my race #1) to discuss as it has caused a physical injury to my right foot, that was unexpected and this can definitely happen to others, while the staff do...
Read moreVERY DANGEROUS! I've been here twice before my recent visit and both times I left thinking I'm never going back. The last time I went was 2017 and a friend was visiting, so I thought I would give it one more shot. Regrettably my original feels of the place were only further confirmed.
They have gone electric which has solved 2 of their previous problems, that being the fumes and the other the speed. They used to go so fast you would get whiplash. The problem that prevails however is the staffs either reluctance towards safety, or its simply a lack of understanding when it comes to safety. This was certainly the case in my 2017 visit and now I have witnessed it again.
The bumpers are only there to mark where the track is (until they are hit, then bits fly off), they are not there to protect you in any way. On my first race someone crashed into the bumper and rose it to head height where it remained for the rest of the race. Had another racer crashed there after that, they would have hit it solely with their face, and I hate to think how that would have ended.
On another race there was an extremely aggressive driver who ended up driving his car half way under the bumper and injuring his hand badly enough that he couldn't hold the steering wheel with that hand. Before this accident happened they had collided aggressively into at least 3 other drivers (myself being one) with zero consequence to this driver. They were allowed to finish racing without even a talking to.
At TBC in Richmond, they have tires that offer actual protection, unlike Fastrack's plastic bumper. They also have staff that are constantly watching the racing and giving drivers who are driving to aggressively the black flag. Two black flags and your out.
The other criticism I have is the amount of time it takes the staff to help drivers in trouble. I watched one driver who needed help wait for 1 minute of his 10 minute race before he got help. The staff didn't see him because they were busy looking at their computer. To the staff it's clearly no big deal, but for the racer that's a10th of their race time gone. Some people seemed to be stuck for longer, but I didn't time those ones.
My advice if you like racing and you don't want to get hurt, take the extra drive into Richmond and go to TBC or Speeders. You'll have fun, everyone follows the rules and most importantly, you...
Read moreFirstly, I can see how people have a load of fun here on the regular. Driving the go-karts at that speed is extremely fun.
My biggest problem is the expectation that, after watching the safety video prior to racing, the staff and organization as a whole would take everyone's safety in to account and actually uphold the rules that me and my friends just watched on said video. The expectation as we understood it was that any unsafe driving was not going to be tolerated.
My friends and I came in-person a month early and booked 3 races for Oct 21st at 6:30pm. The day we showed up, we were 30 mins early to allow for time to sign the waiver and be ready for our appointment. We were told that we were booked for 7pm and had to wait an extra 30 mins. Not the worst thing in the world, but not a good look. Strike 1.
We then went and watched the video and as said before, the expectation of safety was set in our minds. The first race was great and we had fun with the people we were grouped with.
The 2nd race however was a complete disaster. We were grouped with a bunch of kids. If I remember correctly, there is a separate course for kids. Either way, every few seconds there was a spin-out, or a crash or something that required intervention by one of the staff. I myself was slammed in to a handful of times by some of these kids going full speed. It was intentional. Also if I remember correctly, this is not bumper cars. If I wanted to play bumper cars, I wouldve paid a fraction of the cost and gone to castle fun park. If I wanted to risk getting a concussion Id bang my head against a wall.
After one of the many accidents, I put my hand up and asked for the staff member over. I pointed out that these kids are carelessly and purposefully crashing in to everyone, putting us all at a safety risk. The staff member replied "They are just kids man!"
Im not sure what to take from that other than the staff member and the company as a whole do not care about our safety. The rules outlined in the video are for show. At that instant, I decided I was done racing and drove myself to the pit. My friends were feeling unsafe and also went to the pit.
At the end of it all, we were baffled by the handling of the events and all that could be offered were credits to a place I never plan on...
