Went here to see A New World with my wife. The show was fantastic, although this is a review for the venue, which I had a couple issues with. For one: the time communicated for the show didn't specify "doors open" or "start" time. I've been to many orchestras & operas and it's always posted "doors open" so I assumed this was the case here. It was not, however, so myself and 100+ other people were standing outside still as the show was starting. And since it's an orchestra, we all missed the first set. And then the second, because the people at the doors were just standing there not letting us in until one lady (clearly the manager) came around and more or less micro-managed them into seating the hundred+ people crowded in the lobby waiting patiently. The facility itself was nice enough, seats maybe a little snug, but fine for a 2h show. Acoustics for the orchestra were great. I'd see a show here again but at least I'll know the pitfalls of this particular...
Read moreAbsolutely gorgeous concert hall with excellent acoustics and great sight lines. However, for a fairly new facility, wheelchair accessibility is surprisingly poor. There are stairs from the entry hall down to the main foyer, beverage sales, bathrooms and concert hall seating. We had to take a small elevator to by pass three or four stairs. Then cross foyer, take another elevator ride to bypass several stairs to enter the lower level of the concert hall. A lot of work and machinery when a simple ramp beside the stairs would suffice. Our seats were up close (which was a very pleasant surprise) however, we were at the end of an aisle, on the path to the entry/exit door and we definitely felt "squeezed in" and an afterthought. Staff were very friendly and polite, however did not know the wheelchair seating areas well at all, leading us to have to backtrack several times. Would choose the wheelchair seats on the second...
Read moreThe Chan centre for the Performing arts is a beautiful theatre built in a beautiful setting.
Went to the centre for my son’s graduation and Was impressed by the architecture and size of the space (not too huge) but it fits more people than it looks like it could.
Acoustics are great and it’s interna shape is reminiscent of the theatres of old; not because of the decor, which is modern and subdued but because of the shape. It is oval with several tiers (or boxes) along the back and sides. Staff were great, and helpful. Be prepared to wear a mask if you attend anytime soon (2022). One of the last remaining COVID-19 gifts bestowed upon a great theatre. They are still required.
I have to say, that is the only thing that stifled my experience of the theatre. Airflow is already at a minimum to minimize acoustic distortion. Adding a mask and it just...
