At first, I really loved my experience here. The lady working at the front cash was super nice and my vanilla oat latte tasted amazing.
I wasn't sure where to put my dirty coffee mug, so I brought it back up to the front to be helpful and not leave it on the table.
I tried to get the barista's attention by asking if I could leave my mug with her. She ignored me so I said, "I'm just going to leave this here" and put it next to the little sink.
I walked back to the front where she said nothing, picked up the mug and SLAMMED it down on the counter in front of me while glaring at me.
My husband noticed the place where we were to put dirty dishes and I apologized and took the mug over there. The lady working at the cash was so nice and cheerfully said, "no need to apologize!" and almost over-compensated for the rude behavior of the barista.
We originally came into the gallery to look at the art, but had a bad taste in our mouths after the rude demeanor of the barista and ended up leaving.
I was so excited to love this place but now I'm not sure I'll return.
Edit: It was not the barista who is deaf, she took our order when we arrived and was lovely!
Thank you for your apology, I appreciate it, it was not busy at the time of the "mug incident" so there wasn't much of an excuse for the poor behavior - I hope the barista in question adjusts her attitude a bit...
Read moreA jewel we stumbled upon! We were looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and a warm drink. From the outside, the shop looked to be modern and inviting. Once we stepped inside, it was amazing! Beautifully decorated, lovely inviting color schemes with cozy couches and practical tables where people were working away on their laptops. There was a variety of food options from light meals to bakery goods. The drink menu was long with juices, teas, coffees, hot chocolate and more. There was also a baby group going on, between the eating space and the art gallery space, that apparently happens each Friday morning/early afternoon and was spontaneously created by the customers! The place is massive, yet cozy. There is the cafe, an art gallery and a retail shop. Paid parking is just three minutes walking distance away. We...
Read moreDropped by Ottawa Street on a Saturday on our way to a movie at a neighbouring vintage theatre not far away to find this attractive and energetic café/gallery/shop. At first I thought it was a book store from its name but if you're looking for a great snack or drink you should definitely consider the Crown & Press. A multipurpose space curated by local multipotentialite Julie Veenstra whose art is available to view and purchase along with many other artists. Prints also available for sale. My wife and I always hit the art museum café first to fortify ourselves for the visual feast ahead. Metered street parking or civic pay parking lots a short walk across Ottawa Street. Scones, date squares with lattés, delightful! One of many fine shops and businesses along Ottawa Street that deserve a look. Café $. ...
