We went to Cabinet of curiosity, their hardest room.
Staff: 10/10 Really really nice staff when I went there, great service, good at giving hints, good at story telling, and really nice. They overheard that it was one of our members birthday and they told us that they have a bonus where they give free admission to the birthday person. Great people.
Room: 1/10, The room is very.... small. There are only three small rooms, very dense with information. My favorite escape rooms are big, multiroom, thematic, and/or multistory. This one were three rooms with basic furniture, it kinda fit the theme but it felt very flat. I realized afterwards that this was because they had a lot of rooms for the space they have, I think 4 -6 rooms/puzzles? They made rooms small so they could have more people in their facility at once. Smart for business, but it made me not enjoy the room that much. The WORST part, was the fact that everything in the room was loose, usually all the stuff is bolted down. This makes it easier to clean for the staff and easier to know what isn't relevant. We accidentally had stuff knocking over and staff came in concerned. The room was a mess after. The most annoying thing was there was a puzzle with a corkboard and pins, I went to the pins and moved them around and they did nothing, the solution to the puzzle was related to how many pins are on a given location on the corkboard. I could have EASILY moved pins and made the puzzle unsolvable. They could just put a screen on the corkboard or just mark the locations with a marker.
Puzzles: 1/10 The puzzles were pretty bad. I am not saying this cause I lost, in fact, my group finished with a lot of time to spare, but it was poorly designed. They told us that their rooms were very linear, so you get one clue, then go to the next, etc. But then we go to the room and we have 4-6 boxes with locks and are really confused about which clues go with which box. Speaking of locks, that's literally all their puzzles, combo locks. I have been to escape rooms where you had to press buttons to play lyrics of songs and you get it in the right order to unlock a door, place items on a table in a specific order/placement, or turn on light switches in the right order, etc. Those puzzles I really like, combo locks are fine, but when all of your puzzles are combo locks, it gets really boring.
Theme: 5/10 the theme was really flat. No effects or anything in the room. I went to a fire fighter escape room that had really good effects that simulated being a firefighter. In Cabinet of curiosity, I feel like there could have been more cool ideas that you could do since there were two "teams", lots of puzzle ideas and stuff. The story/theme was basically "You are in this room to test if you can solve puzzles", which was kinda lame compared to other themes like japanese horror, cultists, or mental hospitals.
I came to the conclusion that captive games mainly focused on how to make money rather than making great rooms. They have many small rooms so they can have multiple parties in an escape room at once. Only two staff to handle hints, most good escape rooms have staff watching the parties in security cameras and even trigger effects. No electronic puzzles, only locks. No effects/lighting/sound. Their "hardest room" was solved pretty easily for my group (disclaimer, our group is really good). Theme is pretty boring, etc.
It wasn't a "bad" place, more like it was not good compared to average escape room. I do not regret spending money here, I was not bored, I had FUN. But would I have had a better time some other escape room for the same amount...

From the moment my friends and I stepped into the facility, we were greeted by the friendly staff, Tanner and Jocelyn, who instantly made us feel welcome and excited for the adventure ahead.

Read moreWe booked a session on the day of a snow storm, but when we got there we were met with warmth.
2 adults and 1 kid did Pieces of Eight. I found it fun and challenging but my 10 yr old niece really impressed me. Apparently it's built for the way kids think these days so it was a great mind opening exercise for all of us! I just couldn't catch some clues but she figured it out!
We rebooked from another day and Julia was so understanding and empathetic. Our initial contact with the company made me feel good so when we got there, it's no surprise when we got there, Austin did an amazing job with the rules when we came in and was very welcoming and personable. He explained it in a way we understood and could remember. Alesha was so kind, encouraging and patient with us. No one made us feel bad when we were stuck and in fact they kept rooting us on. The best part was at the end of the night, Austin did his closing and said he hoped to see us again and said that Alesha was a hard worker, taking on extra shifts and really putting her dedication into company. I LOVE when coworkers uplift each other and support each other. It's a great look for the company and I guarantee...
