I really like this international/Asian market, but it's made a number of mistakes I think they can fix, and it will be top tier again. Before Covid, YM had an internal restaurant that was very reasonably priced compared to Btrust and TnT, which is also in the area. Earlier this year, they finally opened it again, and I think it vastly improved the shopping experience... BUT... the restaurant never seems to be open. Only on the weekend. They had cheap VC buns, baked goods, and dinner food for takeout, including roasted meats. Now there are no cheap buns, there's NO BAKERY, there's no place to sit and socialize... and the takeout is closed every time I go during the week. TnT, on the other hand, has cheap dum sim takeout as soon as they open at 9 am with tons of in-house and imported baked goods. There's always people there first thing eating breakfast. At lunch, it is PACKED.
Asians love to socialize and EAT!! It would vastly improve service by offering a wide variety of food via baked goods and takeout and.most importantly, provide a place to sit and eat.
Over the last 4 years, they've renewed the store to make it look nicer. Yeah... it looks much better but prices are also much higher too....they were always a little cheaper than anyone else, so people went there. Now, we tend to go a little further to TnT so we can grab some food for the kids, especially since the prices aren't great anymore.
There's less variety than before. We used to be able to find items that other stores didn't carry. Now, we find them at any store we shop in, and most of the time, it's not available at YM.
The location of the store is better than the other Asian markets in Mississauga, IMHO. Easy to get in and out and you have a light if you really need it.
Just replace the things you've lost over the years, and I think this place will be top...
Read moreWeeks ago my partner called in an order of Beef tenderloin (that was on sale thus the reason I traveled 1.5hrs to get there). We wanted 30 pieces for a party we were hosting that weekend. We talked to the manager who barely spoke English in the meat department and therefore asked him more than 6x to confirm the order of 30pcs and the special on beef tenderloin, he responded "yes" all 6x. When I arrived he had mixed up the order and then refused to give me the sale price on the item they were advertising on sale. He didn't even apologize. I got no where with anyone in the meat department mainly because no one spoke English so I headed straight to the manager of the store. Her English was better but she didn't help me much either. She didn't even try. I wanted to start over and reorder but she wasn't helpful at all. She told me to call the manager of the meet department and put on another order. I refused as this I already did this the day before. He couldn't be trusted. She offered to give me the sale price for 1 piece of beef tenderloin for my troubles. I took the offer. Fast forward to yesterday, that beef tenderloin was on sale again but this time I didn't call it in. I took a chance and traveled with the intentions of purchasing the same product(30pcs) for Xmas. By the time I arrived at 3pm it was "sold out". Another customer told me they didn't have it the first day it was advertised either. Why advertise something you don't have?!? I will probably never come back here. 0 for customer service and 0 for having advertised products available. You should always have at least one English speaking supervisor on the floor at all times. Shopping here was frustrating to...
