Summary: great croissant- not overproofed (common issue with many bakeries in mississauga), pide with cheese not over salty, great selection, freshly baked. Average location. On the average high side of the price spectrum. Arab bakery. Worth a visit from time to time. Claim halal: do your own checks.
In details:
location: odd location, however seems to have built a good customer base
Halal: claimed yes. Do your own checks.
taste: I am not somebody who grew up eating arab food but the food here tastes very good to ok. Depends on your taste. They cook their pide in a stone oven. High temp bread cooking; always good taste. Their croissant was good. Not overproofed. A bit too fluffy for my taste & at a little over $4, seems a bit pushy. But in the absence of a more decent one in mississauga/oakville, definitely worth it.
Price: found to be on the average high end of the price spectrum
parking limited
seating area: limited, medium, can get a bit cagey
washroom: didnot see any. Did see a suspiciously washroom looking door but did not visit.
access for disabled: should be improved. They lost one star on this. The disabled access switch opened the exit door when going in & to get out, the disabled door switch was not accessible & hidden behind the pita display. Please show some respect.
staff: courteous, struggles with the ingredients but totally understandable. Teens.Does their best.
Bottom line: I give 3.5/5. Lost 1 star on the disabled access 'disrespect'. Lost half a star on price, caginess of seating area, long wait time due to limited staff. Earn 3.5 good stars for taste, courtesy of some staff, variety, stone oven & apparent...
Read moreUpdate - ordered and tried their food as they had an offer for chicken mandi. I also tried the eggplant curry. Both were not good. The mandi was served with too much rice and not enough chicken - but the worst part is that it's more as if you're eating oil than anything else because that's all I tasted. Way. Too. Much. Oil.
1 star as the pistachio croissant was delicious (finally got to try a croissant). Didn't like everything else so not sure if I'd return, other than just for the pistachio croissant.
This has been an occasionally drop off place for whenever I need breakfast items or I want dessert, etc. This location is very nicely decorated.
There are many things available, from olive oil, to frozen kunafa, to a cookbook, to packaged Arabic desserts and much more. There is also a wide variety of items offered and different bread types.
Price is a bit expensive for the quality received. Overall, I found their petit fours to be just okay. I do love their croissants, but unfortunately a lot of times when I visit there is not much to choose from as everything seems to have been sold out or maybe wasn't made for the day. Even for the ice cream, there isn't any available whenever I want some.
Love that they are pretty authentic and offers both fresh-to-order menu items.
Would love to be able to have access to the full menu items whenever I visit so I can order more and not be restricted to...
Read moreLongtime customers here, but no more. Today’s visit was the last straw. The service is terrible. They took our order and made the box according to our specifications and the items we wanted, but asked us to wait for other baked items which we were okay to wait for. When the tray arrived after a long wait, the man from the front desk swoops in and takes our box (which we had already paid for) and gives it to another customer who came after us. After we complained, not once in his chat with us did he step up to offer an apology for his behaviour or of his treatment of us. Instead, he made us wait for the entire box to be remade and then sought to appease by giving us 2 free items (which we did not accept), as if dignity to equal treatment in service was worth so little. As other reviewers have noted, if you don’t look like them or speak Arabic like them, expect to wait there for over 45 mins.
Also, while you are speaking to them and giving the order, if interrupted by other customers they will happily stop talking to you and talk to the customers that just entered the store and completely ignore you. There’s no order here and neither is it systematic, it’s just chaos. There's no substitute for good service. There’s plenty of restaurants to go to instead of...
