Read moreI called Kingston City Hall ahead of my visit to ask if I needed to bring anything to update my common law status. The lady on the phone told me that all I need to bring is a peice of ID. I then asked if I need to bring any documents such as my lease to prove that my partner and I have been living together for 3 years. She assured me that I don't need to bring any documents, just our IDs. I later called back to confirm that all the information I was given earlier was correct and was provided the same information again. I then drove 35 mins into town to City Hall only to be told that I needed to bring the affidavit forms with me. Why didn't they tell me this on the phone when I specifically asked TWICE? Why couldn't they find the forms for me once I was there? They said it cost money to print off documents, which I offered to pay, but they were still unable to print the page for me.
