My girlfriend and I dined there on a busy Saturday night. We made our reservation in person in the afternoon since there were no tables available online when we checked. When we arrived, we were seated promptly.
My girlfriend ordered the Pichotta de Mediterraneo (Mediterranean Chicken). I ordered the Black, White + Green (scallops on black rice). We ordered the soft shell crab - an appetizer on the daily specials board). We also had cocktails before our meal and ordered a bottle of wine with our dinner.
The cocktails were tasty and the soft shell crab appetizer was expensive at $20, but delicious.
My girlfriend’s entree was pathetic looking. It was 5 pan-seared but not crispy chicken tenders laid on a pile of undercooked potatoes and a bunch of really hard, seemingly dehydrated carrots. Her food was sitting in a pool of what looked like oily juice that had cooked off of the chicken. It was almost as if the cook just dumped the entire contents of the frying pan onto her plate (liquid and all).
My scallops dish was tasty, but it seemed more like 3 items assembled separately and put together on a plate rather than a creation. The black rice was really hard. It seemed undercooked.
We complained to the server about my girlfriend’s dish. Our server, Michael, said repeatedly “Well I didn’t cook it”. He offered another menu item, but we had waited quite a while for our orders and didn’t want to order another dish for her when I was just about done mine.
Once we raised the issue with Michael, he ghosted us. He never returned to our table. He was still serving other tables, though. We had to flag down another server and ask her to send Michael back to our table as we hadn’t seen him in quite a while and our dirty plates had sat on our table for an uncomfortable amount of time.
An older woman, not Michael, came to our table and surprised us when she told us that she had knocked off both of our entrees from the bill. It seemed like she might have been the owner or manager.
This would’ve been a 1 star review, but they earned the second star with their ambiance and the owner/manager’s rectification of our issue.
We still won’t return to Chez Piggy. For the money, there are way better dining options in...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Chez Piggy in Kingston, and overall, the experience was fantastic with just a few minor areas for improvement.
Firstly, the atmosphere here is truly special—warm, cozy, and inviting, creating the perfect setting whether you’re dining out with friends, family, or on a special date. From the moment you step inside, you sense that it’s a place with history and character, making it easy to relax and enjoy your meal.
The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the food itself. Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked, and bursting with flavor. The oysters, in particular, were outstanding—fresh, juicy, briny, and honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. If you’re a seafood lover, these oysters alone justify a visit. The menu offers an impressive range of dishes, blending creativity with familiar comforts, and each item we tried surpassed expectations.
However, one area where Chez Piggy could improve significantly is in the quality of their service. While the staff weren’t unfriendly, our server seemed a bit inattentive and disengaged at times. It felt like we were waiting longer than necessary between courses, and there was a notable lack of attentiveness, especially considering how excellent everything else was. Given the overall quality of the dining experience, it’s clear that the restaurant would greatly benefit from enhanced staff training and a more attentive service approach.
Despite this, the incredible quality of the food and charming atmosphere ultimately overshadowed the service shortcomings. I genuinely enjoyed my time at Chez Piggy, and with just a bit more attention to detail in service, this could easily be one of the top dining experiences in Kingston.
Overall, I highly recommend checking out Chez Piggy for their exceptional oysters and thoughtfully prepared dishes. Just go prepared for a possibly slower pace of service. I’m optimistic that with improved service standards, Chez Piggy could easily become the go-to spot in Kingston for a truly memorable...
Read moreI would like to take a moment to express our experience on August 21 at your restaurant.
My partners were thrilled to visit Chez Piggy for the first time to celebrate his birthday. Unfortunately, the experience from reservation to in-person was less than what we expected.
The wait to be served took between 15-20 minutes long, and the food's quality and flavour were not meeting its reputation and nowhere near as good as it used to be.
I ordered the iced dirty chai tea, and I was disappointed with how it tasted. The balance between the chai tea and espresso was completely off.
We ordered fries, calamari, and the specials of the night. The fries were basic from presentation to flavour, and the calamari was served cold and had to be sent back for a remake. The remake tasted better, but the flavour, texture, and presentation were still basic. I questioned the quality and was told it wasn't from frozen. I think there's a need to re-evaluate the level of excellence of these dishes.
Our first course was poorly executed, from presentation to flavour. I sent it back, and my partner got a Caesar salad as a replacement, which was not their favourite.
Receiving a full bill without any effort made to recover our poor experience was disappointing. Though you made an effort to remove the calamari and drinks from the bill, those are basic customer service gestures in the industry. We were hoping for something above and beyond to recover from the experience.
It felt like there was almost instant deflection and defensiveness every time feedback was given. As a frequent customer, I found today's experience disappointing as a whole.
I hope this feedback will inspire your restaurant to find new ways to improve the current menu and better focus on customer service to go above and beyond to provide exceptional...
