This is one of the most prestigious universities in North America. I knew after graduating with only a Bachelor's degree, I would never succeed in acquiring any employment in Canada without two Canadian university degrees. Moreover, my profession can only be practiced with a post-graduate degree.
The Global Financial Crisis resulted in millions of people being unemployed for years worldwide. These unforeseen victims of Unemployment only had high school degrees and one university degree from unrecognized schools. This unemployment epidemic persisted internationally for years. I've wrote about it extensively in my novel, entitled, 'When is Enough, Enough?'
The Global Financial Crisis also caused the value of homes to plummet. Essentially, they were only worth 50% of the original price of the home. Although, no one can live in a neighbourhood rife with unemployment and destitution. So, there were never any buyers.
Conversely, the post-graduate program I applied for in 2006 had over 700 applicants. These were people who had applied to over a dozen other post-graduate programs across Canada, including the University of Toronto and McGill.
Some of these people were accepted in multiple post-graduate programs, so they rejected all the offers but one. Paradoxically, hundreds of applicants had zero acceptance letters. They never received any refund for their application fees. Instead, they had to wait an entire year to re-apply for all 16 programs across Canada.
However, I never had this rejection problem. I accepted my offer to the QUEENS University post-graduate program specializing in Research in Science. I had to take seven courses a semester, as well as complete a thesis predicated on my research. This revolved around Prochaska's Transtheoretical Model of Behavioural Change. I also needed to maintain a B+ average. Anyone who failed to do this was removed from the program.Hence, I never had time or energy for many of Kingston's recreational activities.
Although, given that the temperature remained below zero for 5 months of the year, that really deterred a lot of people from outdoor activities, including driving. Unless you have experience driving in sleet, ice, fog and snow there's no point driving here. Moreover, cars don't last long in these conditions due to significant CORROSION.
Cars also depreciate in value as soon as you drive them off a lot with every additional mile.Conversely, a Queen's University...
Read moreI am writing to share my recent experience with Queen’s University, particularly regarding their Immigration Law program, in the hopes of helping others make a well-informed decision about their academic future.
My journey with Queen’s University began with high expectations, given its reputation and the uniqueness of the Immigration Law program it offers in Canada. Unfortunately, my experience has been deeply disappointing and has led me to question the overall value of pursuing studies at this institution.
First and foremost, the lack of effective communication and support from the university is alarming. Despite multiple attempts to reach out, I found that there is no direct contact number or staff member available to address prospective student inquiries. Instead, you are left to wait for up to five business days for email responses—a frustratingly slow process for anyone seeking timely information.
Adding to this, there seems to be no funding or financial relief available for domestic students, which compounds the frustration for those of us considering a significant financial investment in our education.
Furthermore, the interactive sessions conducted by the university were far from engaging. During one such session, the speaker did not allow participants to turn on their cameras or microphones, which made the interaction feel impersonal and disconnected. Participants were only able to submit questions via text, which the speaker would then read and respond to—a process that felt both inefficient and unsatisfactory. This lack of real-time interaction raises questions about the university’s commitment to providing a genuine and responsive student experience.
In light of these issues, I would strongly advise prospective students to carefully consider their options. The combination of poor communication, lack of financial support, and a disengaging interactive experience suggests that Queen’s University may not be the best choice for those looking to invest in their education and future careers.
I urge you to explore other institutions that offer more robust support services and a more interactive and student-focused approach. Investing your time and resources is a significant decision, and it is crucial to choose a university that will meet your needs and expectations.
Thank you for taking the time to read this review. I hope it provides valuable insight as you make your decision about where to pursue...
Read moreUnless a university is very famous they're normally not on the average tourist's itinerary, however Kingston has a tremendous amount to offer the tourist and if you find yourself in town and have some extra time definitely take a walk through the Queen's campus and maybe visit one of the museums and take in a sporting event. Note that Queen's has many campuses and facilities - at least three large ones. The main campus is centered roughly on Bader Ln and University Ave. and contains the oldest building (Summerhill, 1839) on the Kingston main-campus as well as most of the oldest limestone buildings. If you have the chance to see the campus in the autumn the fall colors are beautiful. There are two small museums open to the public in this general area; the Miller Museum of Geology and the Agnes Etherington Art Gallery (both appropriate for families - the geology museum is especially good for young children). The art gallery contains two previously unknown Rembrandt's! There are historic ties to Scotland with Queen's and I believe that they are the only university outside of the U.K. with a registered tartan. Speaking of fabric, the school colors are known as the tri-color (blue, red, and yellow) which make for striking uniforms. There are many sporting events through the year and their varsity clubs and teams are quiet competitive. If you are fortunate enough to see the Queen's marching band it's quiet a sight - bagpipes and kilts! (and they play well too :-) Some of the sporting events take place on the West Campus about 1.5 kilometres away. The third large campus is actually a castle in England (15th century Herstmonceux Castle) in East Sussex. I haven't been there. It's one of the top universities in Canada. Canada has a very high ratio of top universities for the size of the population, so many of their universities have all sorts of accomplishments and accolades which you can read about on their websites. Queen's is no exception it has its share Noble Prize winners, politicians, successful entrepreneurs, etc. If you have the time it's...
