Intro: I was looking for a room for three(my mom and sister). I thought I was going to go with some of the big names hotels down by the CIty Hall. After I read some discoraging reviews on Google Maps, I was scared to try them. I was recommended this place and was then on the phone with the front desk, Elyse. She sounded very sweet and helpful. She didn't have any rooms for three but she thought of getting me a Queen and adding a cot on the side. I was so happy to hear her accommodation. So on I went to look for this Hotel. I found myself at the corner of West and King and lost. I called her again, and she came out to look for me and wave me down. I was so impressed already. She found me and directed me to the parking lot in the back.
Some Logistics: I paid $179 after taxes for a one night stay on a Monday evening this past week. The interior reminded me of a rich man's house in the 1800s. The terrace was just an amazing place to sit and have some tea and a conversation. The common/living room was very warmly decorated and inviting. The WiFi is free and showed decent signal in the common room. It got a little flaky out by the terrace. I lived in 204 and the bedroom really wowed me. It felt like a hostel but a hotel version. You feel like you're walking into 1800 era royalty bedroom. There's a small bathroom with toilette, bathtub with shower head and a sink. In another small room, a separate sink and mini fridge. In the bedroom area, there's a tv, some wardrobes and a pretty funky mirror. There's enough plugs around the room for all your electronics, (maybe 10 all around, really impressive for some house built in the 1800s).
Elyse, the Front Desk Attendant, showed us the room to make sure all is well. She moved the cot right out of the storage room into my room. She even offered us complementary tea and coffee and whether we'd like to have it in our room or down in the living room. And so I couldn't say no and enjoyed my green tea in the living room while checking in to this place on Facebook over their free WiFi =) . It came close to 10:30pm and she had to lock up the place and end her shift. We still chatted about each other while she finished closing up. Had a rather intellectual conversation over her Philosophy research and the definition of happiness. We later spent the rest of the night on the terrace and bid farewell to Elyse as she went home. My heart sank a little to see her go =(. She was such a great hostess. The cot was fairly comfortable. I didn't have much problems with my sleep other than it was a bit warm in the room. I should have turned on the AC before passing out on the bed. Morning came, and breakfast was waiting for me downstairs. We had breakfast together out on the terrace. It seemed like there were a total of 7 tables and 4 were taken. A complimentary light breakfast was offered in a very nice set-up on an antique tray. It came with an english muffin with your choices of jams and cheese. Coffee and tea and orange juice was on my table. After breakfast, I handed in my keys and made my way to my sister's convocation at Queens.=)
Concluding statement: All in all, I was very impressed with this Hotel and their service. Elyse, if you or your boss is reading this, you deserve a big star and a big High Five from me! You can tell how much passion I have for this business from the massive review I'm...
Read moreThis place has a great Instagram page Lovely decor and a good location If you don’t mind walking 10-15 mins to downtown Kingston We were there to bike the waterfront trail which is absolutely lovely… for 2 nights Friday check in and Sunday check out Good welcome checking in Although they should tell you a few things: When you are booking; no elevator on the building Which we somewhat understand as an old historic building I have very bad knees, so we had some challenges we had to change rooms as the room we paid for large King was on the 3rd floor. 3.5 flights of stairs from the main floor dining options as we did understand a new hotel, not knowing they don’t have a hot breakfast order option was a disappointment we did have the European “continental” breakfast, which was fine. Pastries could be fresh. Tip: get your pastries from “Wheat Kings” thru have excellent baked goods patio and bar The patio looks lovely and will be lovely and bar, again not told they do not have their liquor license. That was a big disappointment, as one of the reason we booked was to be able to come back after a long day and have a cocktail on their lovely patio. We might give this place a second chance, but all amenities would need to be up and running and mastered. Not sure who was the general manager, but I do think of your a new hotel and trying to make the best first impression with your guests, connecting with them in the dining room and welcoming them would be key. Customer service training for all team members would be a recommendation for the team. Hopefully they will get all their amenities needed to run a smooth historic...
Read moreEdit: was contacted by staff and given a refund for the night I did not stay with them, as well as thanks for notifying them about the issue with the noise. Appreciate the follow up. Would consider staying here again when the AC noise is fixed.
Was in town for a class reunion, slept poorly.
Air conditioners are very loud. Am not a light sleeper. Even with the thermostat off there was an intermittent buzzing sound (probably about 40 db) that woke me up several times during the evening, and while trying to nap the next day after getting poor sleep. The front desk staff informed me that the AC was recently installed, and they had not had this complaint before (hard to believe). They were kind enough to switch my room, twice. Unfortunately the problem appears to be with AC in all of the rooms I was in. Not wanting to risk another night of poor sleep, I ended up cutting my stay short by one night to stay at another hotel for the last day of my trip.
Was told a manager would reach out to me the following day about a refund (I didn’t ask for one, they offered.) Not only was I not called, but there was apparently no notes about the noise issues when I followed up after not hearing from anyone.
Would not recommend staying here unless they address communication issues and (more importantly) the AC noise. Otherwise it’s a pretty standard boutique hotel, a little over priced, but nice and well located.
Did not get a chance to check out the spa or restaurant due to the sleep disruptions.
In my sleepy state I also left a bottle of cologne in the second room I stayed in that they...
