It's not a bad place in terms of the size and the wide breadth/range of activities and stations available for kids of all ages to engage in. They even have an area that is entirely devoted to infants. The entire concept itself is very well thought out and our daughter really enjoyed herself here.
Unfortunately, our visit was marred by the lack of communication and sensitivity as well as rudeness displayed by one of your staff members. I am not sure if he is one of the co-owners or employees or if this was targeted, but his name is Mark. I already had a slightly bad feeling even before we entered the play area when my husband and I were lining up with our daughter at the check in station as we noticed he was scowling behind the desk. We were waiting for our turn and even though he knew we were there, he didn't make any attempt to help us while his other colleague was helping the customers in front of us. When it was finally our turn, he offered to help the family who was waiting behind us. It just gave me a very weird and iffy feeling, but I brushed it off because I wasn't sure if maybe I was being too sensitive.
While my daughter was happily playing with the water fountain, Mark suddenly appeared from out of nowhere which startled me. My daughter then accidentally splashed water everywhere and I reflexively apologized. However, instead of being cordial being that my daughter is just a toddler, he berated us about my daughter splashing water all over the place when other children did the same. And, children being children, one would expect children to splash water everywhere as they are naturally inclined to do so. You see it everywhere, especially as a parent. Kids splash water when they take baths, when they play with the water fountain or in a pool at the park, community centre or in the backyard. My husband and I would expect that people who work in an establishment where babies/children are the target audience would already be aware or understanding of this. If this is an issue or is part of your company policy, then it should be more clearly communicated to your clients instead of having your staff rudely target random clients, run up to them unawares and rudely yell at them for something that is naturally occurring among all children. Plus, he seemed to have left Oh My Land after he berated us. Honestly, if he or one of your staff members are having a bad day, call in sick and stay home. Don't bring your emotions and take it out on your clients, ESPECIALLY WHEN BABIES/CHILDREN ARE INVOLVED. You are jeopardizing your clients' personal safety and well-being by letting things like this go unchecked. IT IS DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THIS IS A PLACE FOR BABIES/CHILDREN WHEN STAFF HAVE EMOTIONAL OR ANGER MANAGEMENT ISSUES AND BRING IT TO WORK. THIS IS SERIOUS AND YOU AS THE OWNER(S) NEED TO ADDRESS THIS AND PERHAPS RE-TRAIN YOUR STAFF IF YOU EVEN TOOK THE TIME TO TRAIN YOUR STAFF TO BEGIN WITH.
Make no mistake that Mark looked like he was about to fight someone as he positioned himself in a highly aggressive stance and basically reprimanded us in a threatening manner. I was so shocked that I was thoroughly shook to the core. We were also dismayed to find that none of the staff at this place were smiling, friendly or happy. They looked stoic, wooden, and dour as if they didn't even want to be there. You would think that you would have more upbeat and energetic people working at a place like this along the lines of Blippi, but it looks more like the staff are just there to collect their pay and leave. Perhaps the owner(s) should do better to hire workers who actually like kids.
I have to say that what started out as a fun and enjoyable visit with our daughter had been thoroughly soured by this scary incident. My husband and I are having second thoughts about coming back to this place as there are public playgrounds with built-in water fountains and play cafes in Port Moody and Richmond that treat their families way better...
Read moreGreat space for kids to play and it's way bigger than it looks in photos (or even on the outside). We went on family day weekend so the busy and craziness we experienced may be a one off. I didn't particularly like that it was downstairs as we lined up and felt a bit dangerous with a kid under 2.
We generally has an awesome time and there were a variety of things and activities to do, both fine and gross motor activities. We loved the different activity rooms which was a nice getaway from all the craziness on the outside.
There is one play gym that can potentially be hazard and taking 0.5 stars off. The one where you climb up to a wooden box, walk through a jungle like rope tunnel, and into a ball pit. My kid jumped from the top to into the ball pit and thankfully did not get hurt, but almost hit the wooden sides. My next thought was if a child were to get hurt, THERE IS NO WAY you as a parent can ever get in there fast enough to rescue them. The ball pit is fully enclosed and in the middle of the entire equipment. Additionally, I saw a parent go in the wooden box at the top to help the kids and just from a short amount of time, they said it was VERY hot (parent was just sitting and monitoring). My opinion is that this is not at all safe in terms of ability to access your child plus a light suffocation hazard. Parents - let your kids use this with caution and keep a really close eye on them (we all should be anyways!)
The cafe space is another one that I'm taking the 0.5 star off. We saw 80% empty tables but parents were saving spots with bags, jackets, empty cups/food. I get you want to do that for your kids, but think about all the other parents plus there are tons of cubbys to store your stuff and there aren't any rules on this unfortunately.
It was incredibly hard to find a space to sit for a few minutes to eat with the kids. There wasn't even space along walls or the ground that felt safe to my kid to sit down to have a quick snack without being trampled on. A suggestion would be to only use the space for eating, when you're eating and not as a holding spot for your kids to eat..or when they decide to eat Or maybe have mobile kid tables and chairs that we could just pull up somewhere to mitigate the 'space holding' behavior.
My personal experience was that even though I would have asked a family if we could borrow a seat, the fact that no one was around to even ask made me just borrow a corner of a table and was bring judged for doing so. (That's probably dependent on the fact that we picked a table where the family wasn't being very nice). We only sat for 15 mins while our kids ate and we left to play more and we're just 'in their way' for about 5 mins. Would love to see improvements of sharing this space and having some rules/guidance for parents so we can all have a...
Read more1 star for the huge play space and variety of activities for kids to choose from but I would never come back again. 1) it was my son's 1st Birthday yesterday and other indoor play areas would've definitely at the least, offered even a small discount. I asked if they could do anything special for him but front desk lady did NOTHING. Not even a simple 'Happy Birthday' for him to make him smile.(She was chinese and barely spoke proper English so maybe she couldnt comprehend? Not sure. 2) Once you enter the area, the food store is immediately on your right including the eating area which is also in the main play area. That was an immediate turn off already as kids could go and play around with toys and everything with their greasy food hands. They built a communal sink area thinking that it would help but it doesn't if no one regulates. They should keep the Eating area and Play area SEPARATE like other Playgyms that are clean and tidy. 3) the STAFF working there. Despite the front desk workers, the staff working inside looked like they hated their jobs and didnt know how to smile at kids or anything. Even though kids were actively playing with toys, they would also clean the toys up and put them away when they weren't even finished. 4) the Toys and Carts for the smaller kids were either Broken, had no battery and were straight dirty. I highly doubt they actual Sanitize / disinfect anything after they close by seeing the old stains. I saw that they took out vacuums only when they closed at 6. A few cars that my son wanted to ride on were broken and just taped together which clearly i wouldn't have my son riding on. 7) My socks were filthy at the end of our session. I had food crumbs stuck to the bottom of my socks and they were dark dark Grey. I had to remove my socks completely and go sockless because thats how dirty it was. If you're looking for a clean space for your child to be at, this is definitely NOT the...
