We booked stoke hotel on our way to Banff and stayed one nights with three rooms, all king size beds with one room pet friendly. Unfortunately we wish we made a different choice. With three rooms cost, we will be better off staying in Basecamp Resort which is newer and quieter with 3-bedroom accommodation and pet friendly and available during the time we stayed.
First pros for the hotel:
Newly renovated. Housekeeping did a good job, the room is clean and the bed is comfortable The highlight of the hotel is the breakfast it offered, nothing fancy but taste good. Everyone is happy with the meals.
Now talking about cons.
We specifically mentioned to the front desk that we prefers quieter room, the front desk staff told me that because we requested king size bed, that were our only choices, they were all facing highway. Lucky enough, was assigned two rooms closest to the railway bridge and highway, one room with pet is on back building.
After a long drive from Vancouver, I have a sleepless night that I could give you some idea that the only time the highway No.1 traffic is down a bit is between 2 am to 4 am. While, even during those couple hours, the railway noise was so loud that it woke up all of us no matter where we stayed at 3 am. Trains just pass by constantly but this particular one was so loud.
I was bored enough that I even downloaded sound meter curious to measure how loud it is. Whenever any car passes by(which is every a few seconds), the noise level is between 50 db to 60 db(like a normal conversation around you all the time), truck could be a bit more. When the rail train passes by, the noise coming from the bridge can reach 80 db to 90 db which is harmful for human ears and could cause long term damages if exposed to this environment all the time.
Other funny thing is the two rooms that is not pet friendly is way bigger than the one which is pet friendly. The pet friendly room literally could only fit a bed and 30% smaller than the one which is not pet friendly, and you pay $25 extra for the room. Not sure what is the logic on that.
Apparently most hotels in Revelstoke is close to either highway and railway, with stoke hotel is probably the closest. I did try to locate an ear plug and visited almost everywhere including save on food and all gas stations, but it looks like you could only find it in pharmacy which closes early. Tried to use airpod with noise cancelling function, it could not cover the noise. So be prepared if you are sensitive to the noise or choose alternative accommodation.
I really don't want to leave a negative review because I can see the management is trying so hard on other areas but I feel obligated to warn people who are like me, after all, we need a good sleep to continue our journey wherever we are going.
Tip for the management: It is a great property that you guys are doing so well on other areas, an investment into a sound isolation in the wall and double-glazed windows and heavy curtains will go long way for your hotel, so your location(something you can't change)...
Read moreEasy to find off the highway. Ample parking and the front desk staff were friendly and helpful, but the circumstances around the actual room is the issue.
Upon opening the door to our room, we were met with an overpowering wall of febreeze scent... as if someone spilled several bottles of it on the carpet. All we could do is gag. The smell was overpowering. Outside we met with some other people who were staying at the hotel and, thinking perhaps it was just an issue with out room, asked them if their place stank of febreeze - and they said it did as well. For reference, with the bathroom window open on a 2nd floor unit, we could still smell the febreeze when outside on the parking lot below. Must be the cleaners just spray bombs the rooms with febreeze to hide all other scents. We stayed 2 nights, and kept the windows open, bathroom fan, and AC fan going the full time to try to get rid of the smell. By the time we were leaving on the second day we discovered why they spray so much febreeze, as it was fading away the smell of the dirty carpets started to come though. The room itself was small and clean looking. Bathtub is so small to be useless unless you are under 5' tall, and same with the shower head, but it works well enough to have a quick shower. Sink again is really low, as if the whole bathroom is designed for people 5 feet tall and under. Speaking of space.. there is not nearly enough space around the main room to move around, or even put a suitcase on the floor in order to open it up. The whole thing is made for little people it seems. Room was advertised as having a queen size bed, but that again was merely a double. Must be shrinkflation! Public hottub is what it is - nothing to write home about. can probably fit 6-8 people in it max. It was clean and a nice but small ... if there are a few other people using it you have to wait your turn. The buildings itself are overall a clean looking place, but just cannot get over the stench of febreeze in our room.
Next time we will be staying...
Read moreI definitely would not recommend this hotel and I will not be staying here again. It was a wild time. It is for sure a motel and not a hotel. When we entered our room, there was someone’s bike thrown outside on the front lawn, random people sitting in our exterior chairs that were supposed to be dedicated to our room, people yelling to each other in the hot tub, and a lady that was dancing and blaring music beside us. We could hear everything happening in the room beside us for the evening. It’s a dog friendly motel, so we had our dog and had her on a leash, and the lady in the room beside told us she needs to be set free and undid her leash… these are the type of people you can expect to see here. I actually got that “ick” feeling when I saw our room and checked the mattress for bed bugs. We tried turning on the TV and the remote does not work. We had to get up and do everything by hand. We were excited for the breakfast, so we went up to eat and I saw all the reviews were decent food wise… the eggs were cold, the ham was tough, however the hash browns were ok…. Coffee undrinkable, my boyfriend who likes instant coffee couldn’t even drink it, that’s saying something. Luckily there is a tim Hortons and Starbucks across the street. To give my honest feedback and not be completely negative… location is great, only 5 minutes from downtown, the bed is comfy, and it’s nice that the room has AC. I just want to urge everyone to think twice about the experience you are looking for before booking this hotel, especially for $236/night plus the...
