This review applies for ALL Canada Computers, not just the Richmond Hill location. Let me begin by saying that I did my research on the creation of this company and it was created in 1991 by a Gordon Chan. That being said, it is now 2020 and it seems as of their systems haven't changed since day 1. For a place that sells technology and computer parts, you would think they would have better tech and systems. This entire company should consider themselves lucky they have an advantage in exclusivity with their parts and that it is almost impossible to get certain parts somewhere else because that is the ONE AND ONLY reason anyone would ever shop here. The staff are mediocre. No complaints specifically regarding them, but nothing exemplary either. Their customer service is average. You may get lucky with some and unlucky with others just like other businesses. However, this pandemic is a sign of how well a company can perform, and Canada Computers has performed TERRIBLY during this time. They have set up a little make-shift doorway for you to line up outside in -10 or colder weather while they have 1 person taking your order number, 1 runner, and 1 other person doing God knows what. You would think in today's day and age you can set up a more sophisticated method and have customers wait in their vehicle while you use an electronic method to verify curb-side pick up. At the VERY LEAST, have the employee who is doing NOTHING, to go outside and collect the waiting customers order number so your runner can prepare more than one at a time. This is not a track marathon for your runner to repeatedly go back and forth picking up one order at a time. Quite honestly, it would be common sense for you to collect order numbers from all customers waiting, tell them to go wait in the car, and text them when their order is ready for pick up. It is honestly a pathetic business and I can not wait for some entrepreneur to wipe them off the face of the Earth. This is only their retail side. Their online services are laughable as well. They text you to come pick up your order within 3 days, but if you don't come within 2 days they will cancel your order. Any inquiry will take them over 1-2 weeks to reply. At that point there is no reason to even start an inquiry. On top of all this, their return policy is absolute garbage, and any issues with the parts need to be handled by the company which manufactures the part. This makes sense, but they operate as if it is a Pacific Mall business where they only take cash and anything you buy is final sale. I'm 99% sure if they could, they would require everyone to pay cash so that they can evade taxes.
Long story short, I am praying for the day this pathetic company goes under. Any entrepreneurs reading this, find a way to infiltrate their supply chain so that you can offer the same products, but using a sophisticated online channel to distribute to customers. Amazon is King for a reason, and if they wanted to take over this market it is game...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at this location. It's a bit of a long story but I hope they can learn a lesson from my experience and improve their service. I bought a Corsair Void Elite Wireless headset from this location on Monday July 24th. When I got home and tried it out, I immediately noticed the left speaker was louder than the right. Headsets are final sale unless defective but having speakers of two different volumes sounds defective to me so I took it back the next day. Upon testing it out, one of the tech's confirmed that the volumes were slightly different. I thought "great if he can hear that they are different volumes then they will replace it for me". Wrong. They tried to tell me that gaming headsets are lower quality and sometimes this is just how they are made, it is not defective. I spoke with the manager and he reiterated the same thing They told me they can only replace/exchange it if Corsair accepts the RMA and they would call me tomorrow to let me know how it goes. I was obviously upset at this point and we went back and forth about was the definition of "defective" even means, but I didn't know what else to do other than wait. They called me the next day and told me Corsair denied the RMA and I'm more or less SOL. I was really disappointed at this point and asked to speak with the manager. He was not available and they said he would call me back. I didn't feel like waiting to solve this issue so I took my headset to Canada Computers North York and asked for an exchange there. They immediately identified the product was defective and replaced it on the spot, easy as that.
As someone who has spent a lot of money at Canada Computers, I really expected better service from the Richmond Hill location. I thought it was very unnecessary for them to give me such a hard time about a relatively inexpensive product and they should take some responsibility for selling something that is defective. They just lost a lifetime customer. I will order all my products from Amazon from now on as they have a much more flexible return policy and staff who value their customer's business and time. Even after calling Richmond Hill to inform them about my positive experience at North York, they offered nothing but an apology for wasting my time. It would have been nice and I would have been willing to continue to do business with Canada Computers if they offered me some sort of store credit for wasting my time (and money, it cost me at least $20 in gas driving there multiple times and to North York) but alas, this sort of customer service seems to be beyond their capacity. I recommend anyone that is considering to buy a product from Canada Computers to check amazon first, they offer far superior...
Read moreRecently had a negative experience with Canada Computers. First of all, I ordered a pre-built gaming desktop from their online store, which was delivered 3 weeks later. Fine. Within 24 hours of getting it out of the box, I began experiencing blue screens and game crashes, each time getting a different error message. After days of diagnostics, I had narrowed it down to 3 possible issues: a problem with the installation of the graphics drivers, corrupted files on my operating system, and a potential hardware memory problem (all of which are problems during the creation of the machine).
As I am not a computer wiz by any means, I called the Newmarket location, where I was told over the phone that I could bring it in and get it repaired in a few days time completely under warranty. Sweet. After hauling my system to the location and standing outside in the heat for 15 minutes, the greeter at the door flat-out told me that I’d be better off going somewhere else, and that the earliest my computer would be repaired and returned would be PARTWAY THROUGH AUGUST. Considerably more than “a few days” as I was told over the phone.
I then took it to the Richmond Hill location: after THOROUGHLY explaining the problem and providing them with a USB containing the exact results of all of my diagnostics, they assured me the problem would be fixed in a matter of days. Flash forward 3 days, and they called me to let me know that the graphics card works fine and it’s ready for pickup. After telling them that the graphics card was literally NEVER THE PROBLEM and asking if they had run a diagnostic / checked the memory or OS at all (as I had explicitly asked when I dropped it) they informed me they hadn’t and that they would need another day to check that. Productive 3 days there bud. The next day, they called to say the hardware was fine, but it was actually an operating system flaw, and asked if I was fine to take it back and repair that on my own. Again, not a wiz, so I said no, and the reply was that another full work day would be needed to fix that. A day later, I had to call them for an update, at which time they told me they weren’t done and need another day (so that’s two full work days now to...uninstall and reinstall windows?) At present, I still don’t have my computer.
Between sending me a broken PC, lying to me over the phone, flat-out telling me to go somewhere else, clearly not listening to me explaining my problems, and taking forever on repairs, I have been without a functioning computer for a little over 5 weeks (and counting). I don’t recommend buying anything prebuilt from Canada Computers, and I would take any repair-related problems literally anywhere else but here. Very...
