Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception — Attraction in Saint John

Under major renovations as a building of this size, given the period in which it was built, requires significant upkeep pretty much year round. The foundation stone was laid in May 1853 and walls were erected and a roof laid by November 1853. The blessing and first mass in the new cathedral were celebrated on Christmas Day. The cathedral chimes, installed in 1885, were first rung on that Christmas Day and consist of ten bells, the largest about 3,000 pounds in weight. Visited this Cathedral yesterday (Jul 30/2023) with hubby for the first time (port visit from cruising), and attended the 10am Sunday Mass.
