If you’re visiting Toronto and want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, Centre Island Park is the perfect escape. Located just a short ferry ride away from downtown, this tranquil island oasis offers a beautiful mix of nature, recreation, and family-friendly fun — all with stunning views of the city skyline.
From the moment you step off the ferry, you feel like you’ve entered another world. No traffic, no noise — just green space, fresh air, and the gentle sound of Lake Ontario. Whether you’re looking to relax, explore, or enjoy a full day of activities, Centre Island Park has something for everyone.
The park is immaculately maintained, with wide walking and biking paths, flower gardens, picnic areas, and plenty of benches for taking in the view. It’s a favorite spot for both locals and tourists during the warmer months, and it never feels overly crowded thanks to its spacious layout.
For families with kids, the park is a dream. Centreville Amusement Park, located within Centre Island, offers a charming, old-fashioned fairground experience complete with a Ferris wheel, carousel, and small rides suitable for young children. There’s also a petting zoo and pony rides that younger visitors will love.
If you’re into outdoor activities, you’ll love the biking trails, kayak and canoe rentals, and even beaches for swimming or sunbathing. Ward’s Island Beach and Hanlan’s Point Beach are both accessible from Centre Island and offer peaceful spots to relax by the water.
One of the best parts of Centre Island is the incredible view of Toronto’s skyline. Bring a blanket, grab a spot on the grass near the shoreline, and enjoy the picture-perfect view — especially during sunset. It’s also a fantastic spot for photographers and anyone who enjoys scenic spots.
There are a few small cafés and food stands on the island, but many people bring their own food and make a day of it with a picnic. BBQs are allowed in designated areas, and there are plenty of picnic tables available. Just be sure to clean up after yourself to help keep the park beautiful for everyone.
Getting there is simple — just take the ferry from Jack Layton Ferry Terminal (at the foot of Bay Street). Ferries run frequently in the summer, and the ride itself offers great views of the harbor.
Overall, Centre Island Park is a must-visit destination in Toronto, especially in spring, summer, or early fall. Whether you’re looking for a romantic walk, a fun family outing, or a peaceful solo retreat, the island...
Read moreSo I went with my family, my best friend and her family. We took the Go Train there and walked from the station (about 5 mins). The Ferry going there was quick and cheap. The ride back is free. The rides at Centreville were really fun but I didn't really like the Ferris Wheel one because it takes forever to get on even if the line was really small. And I couldn't stop shaking the whole ride. After the ride is done, you have to wait for someone to get off and then someone to get on until it's your turn. On the back of the seat things, it says do not shake but when it was time for everyone to get off my friend's brother (6) kept shaking it on purpose. There's A lot of rides that I liked so i'll name three. 3. The Skyride. It's like a big ski lift over some parts of the park and a lake. 2. The Mine Coaster. It's really fun but the wait time is pretty long and you're in the sun most of the time in line.1. The Iconic Log Ride. It's a ride that can sit up to 4 people in a log (Not real). The lines aren't long at all. It's kind of like a little artificial river but at the drop part, i'd recommend holding onto the silver railing on the side of the log. When you go up the "hill" it's just a conveyer belt but back into just water again when you go down. Another one I wouldn't recommend is the bumper boats because the lines are not too long but it takes forever to get on, the motor is really hot so don't touch the metal part, and the ride isn't even that long. I'd recommend bringing your own food since it's pretty pricey. So Centreville was good but now, it's closing. So we gotta get on the ferry back home. We had to use the bathroom so we did but when a lady walked out of the stall and I was about to walk in, me, my best friend, and her mom saw a huge pile of poop on the side of the toilet. By then, I decided I was gonna hold it till we got home. But the Ferry line back was the worst part of my whole summer. the line was ENORMOUS. We had to wait for the Ferry for so long and then when the Ferry came, everyone bolted to get on and me, and my friend's family were stuck right behind the gate. In the commotion, my familly got stuck behind a few people. We were all jammed together with total strangers. After another HOUR we finally got back on and I reunited with my family. I'd rate the actual place 2 and 1/2 stars but the experience was 5 and now the poop and the Ferris wheel is an inside joke between me and...
