🇨🇦 Toronto Hidden Gem: Kew Gardens Park ⛲️🌳

Accidentally stumbled upon this place years ago!! So back in 2014 i think I used to explore the city via public tranist just mindlessly riding the ttc and seeing what is out there. This particular day i rode the college high park streetcar whose last stop was right at queen st and parliament. Bus driver told everyone to get off, wouldn't hear of me staying in the bus to loop back. 😑 so I get off and cross the road to queen st and see a streetcar approching going eastward, and there is this nice old lady trying to get her groceries up the inconvenient old streetcars. The ones with the steps? The inaccessible ones?? Yes, those. Glad they phased those ones out. Like whose bright idea was it to have those run on the 511 route to the Toronto western hospital. How are wheelchair bound patients or ones with mobility issues with a walker or cane supposed to climb thr steep steps?? Anywhoo, I decided to help her carry her bags up and wr got to chatting when she mentioned she lived right on the lakeshore with an excellent beach and library close by! when i saw her struggling yet again to get her groceries down at her stop right infront of the library. I thought heck, why not help her again and visit the library and see the park. So I get to walking on the path down from the library and come accross the cutest little fairy door attached near the base of the tree. This little door is the only real reason I keep coming back to visit! Its just so cute!!!! There are so many things to explore there like an excellent wooden playground for children, multiple sports areas, bathrooms, a small cafe shop. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The beach itself is nice, but instead of sand its mostly pebbles and rocks. The shore isn't very child friendly as my toddler loves to play in the sand at the beach. There is a great boardwalk to stroll the lakeshore and enjoy the view. There is a dog park and also a lifeguard station, which is excellent and fully manned till sunset in the summer months. More recently was there and when we were coming back at sunset they had a huge screen set up under the stars playing the cartoon movie sing! It was an amazing experience for the kids to enjoy a movie outdoors and have dinner. Right on the street there is a tim hortons, shoppers drugmart and different food places to grab snacks. 10/10 would recommend.

This park is the gateway to Kew Beach on Lake Ontario in Toronto's East End - this is a gorgeous, green space with grass, trees, sculptures, picnic tables, benches and a gazebo. The streetcar stops right at the park on Queen. Close to shops and restaurants. Nearby public washrooms and a concession stand for snacks. This busy 6.5 hectare park lies in Toronto's Beach neighbourhood and stretches from Queen Street East down to the Lakeshore. Along it's Queen Street edge you'll find a cenotaph, seasonal flower beds and a library. The park interior features a wading pool and playground, trails, naturalized and open grassy areas, baseball diamond and a bandstand used for some of the many events that happen in this park. Where the park meets the beach there are tennis courts, a sports pad used as a sports area in summer and artificial ice rink in winter, an enclosed seasonal winter fire pit, and a building with change rooms, washrooms, a snack bar and a water bottle filling station. Highly recommended

Kew Gardens is my favourite public park in Toronto. It's a rustic, vast and beautiful enclave of greenery, picnic chalets, little forest paths, tennis courts and hockey arenas, a big baseball court, and many more. There is also a large playground and a mini water park with water toys where children can play and enjoy themselves. One may find themselves shifting from a sunny flower garden to a wooden bridge path surrounded on both sides by imposing trees providing a pleasant shade. There is much to see here and time feels as if at a standstill. The sheer size of the trees and the century-old library right next to this park often makes me reflect on the history of this place, where children played and laughed a hundred years ago in this park that likely changed very little in that time. A perfect place for a picnic or an adventure of exploration, Kew Gardens will be an instant favourite once you spend...
