My children, friends, and their children took a trip to Sylvan Lake and couldn’t help but notice this amazing looking place. We decided to check it out but found that there was not much parking. We decided to pull into the staff parking stalls for a minute, understanding that we were not allowed to stay there - but only popping in for a minute to check and see if our kids could come in and enjoy! Within seconds, some manlet wearing a blue “STAFF” tshirt was yelling at us that we could not park there or we would be towed. I simply said, “we will be here for 5 minutes to make our plans, good luck getting a tow truck here in that time” and then walked away to admissions to find out what types of tickets we could buy. Little did I know that this little angry manlet decided to go off on the rest of my friends. When I returned 3 minutes later, the angry manlet was gone and in his place was a red faced lady, also wearing a blue T-shirt who seemed very angry. It was at this time that I found out the manlet told my friends and children that he would make sure we couldn’t come in, he would call the police and all the tow trucks in town. The red faced lady… well I don’t know how she wound up in the situation since she clearly had no idea how to deal with what was happening. She seemed more concerned with my friends attitude. I’m sorry, red faced lady, but maybe consider not defending a man who is telling kids that they won’t be allowed inside to the activity they have been excited to go to all day, AND that he’s calling the police on their mothers. He was also apparently referring to my brown skinned friends and their children as “YOU PEOPLE”. Anyway, shortly after I returned and tried to diffuse the situation, another lady came over who was a manager. She seemed much more reasonable to talk to. She apologized for her rude angry manlet staff member and told us that we are absolutely allowed inside. During this interaction however, the angry manlet came running over to yell at us some more. I might have been intimidated if it weren’t for the fact that he is as tall as my 10 year old son, but still this is very scary and aggressive behaviour for children to witness. The manager immediately walked over to him and made him go inside so she could more rationally deal with the situation at hand. Our kids were still very excited to go inside so of course we went and bought passes. My daughter however quickly noticed that the hotheaded little manlet was the person handing out life jackets and refused to go as she was scared. I figured, no problem, after all the trouble I’m sure we can get her ticket refunded. Only for the manager who had just witness the trouble we had gone through with the manlet to tell us “sorry, no refunds”. She was soon persuaded once I explained that my daughter doesn’t feel safe or comfortable with such an aggressive man in such close proximity.
To be absolutely fair, our kids that did go wound up having a lot of fun.
Listen up you angry little manlet Karen: we are grown women and we know we SHOULDN’T park in staff parking. We agreed to the risk associated (including being towed) when we parked there briefly. You could have chosen to quietly call a tow truck if you were so bothered instead of being confrontational with children around. Consider finding a career in parking enforcement since you seem so passionate about it. Instead of trying to exert some sort of “power” over families with their kids just out for a good time.
Business owner: other customers witnessed this disgusting behaviour and left. Might wanna check your power...
Read moreTerrible Lifeguard Response and Unfair Treatment
I had a truly horrendous experience at this water park on the lake. When a man suffered a heart attack, the lifeguards displayed shocking negligence by doing nothing. It was my own mother who stepped in to help, realizing the severity of the situation. However, even after realizing themselves, the lifeguards remained unresponsive and unhelpful.
As if that wasn't bad enough, after the incident, the park management offered us a refund as an apology, but their insensitivity didn't stop there. They actually kicked us out of the park for taking initiative and aiding someone in need. This level of disregard for human life and appreciation for help is beyond appalling.
I urge everyone to reconsider visiting this water park. Your safety and well-being are clearly not a priority, and the treatment we received after trying to make a difference was absolutely unjust. A place that reacts this way in emergencies and punishes those who step up doesn't deserve anyone's patronage. Update: Dear Alison,
I appreciate your response, but I must express my concerns regarding the accuracy of the situation. It was my mother's lifeguard expertise that allowed us to handle the situation effectively, preventing potentially serious issues. While we're relieved to hear the patron is recovering, we found ourselves stepping in and managing much of the situation from the water. The lack of assistance from your lifeguards was evident, and had we not intervened, the outcome could have been quite different. I believe it's crucial to address this matter honestly, acknowledging that external help was required to ensure safety. I hope this feedback can contribute to a safer experience for all.
Really disappointed to see a reply that the customer is spreading misinformation instead of an apology. This is not a respectable business unfortunately, that will lie through their teeth to make a profit. We will be reporting this business through the proper channels. Hopefully we eventually receive an apology instead of the constant backhanded apologies we have been receiving from this disgusting...
Read morePros: Slides are fun Cons: very busy on a weekend, not enough life jackets. By 3pm, the line to get on is painfully long we went late August. The water is so shallow that you hit bottom if you jump/slide in, in many places. This can be dangerous from larger components. life guards have VERY poor training. See below management is rude and disrespectful.
More details: We went on a Sunday in late Aug. We got there about 130pm. Its busy at that point, but not crazy. At about 330, there was a medical emergency involving one of the guests showing heart problem symptoms, and panicking. Despite the guest's family yelling repeatedly for a lifeguard, we had to help the guest out of the water, administer initial first aid, and go get the nearby lifeguard, who wasn't paying attention. He came over, but was unsure how to help. We had to take charge of the scene, and tell him to go back, get his radio, and call for a boat. We continued administering first aid while a second life guard came over, and eventually the boat, but at no time did the lifeguards take charge of the scene or seem to know what they were doing.
After, we discussed with management, who chose to argue with us and rudely dismiss our legitimate safety concerns. We asked for a refund, in return for us taking the time to provide the first aid that the lifeguards should have. They agreed, and we got a refund. HOWEVER, they then made us return our passes. So because we took time away from our day to do their job, we lost access to the park.
Summary, this park is not very safe, has poorly trained lifeguards, and management that doesn't seem to care. This is not the place in Sylvan Lake to be...
