Thank you again for manager Johnny's help in refunding the black cod due to consumer purchase error. The one we wanted to buy was the Miso black cod (highly recommended! It's delicious). We purchased it, sat in car and realized it's the wrong item. He understood store policies must be followed but he was empathetic about the situation and effortlessly assisted us in the refund. He went above and beyond, directly to the seafood staff, helped us arrange for the correct order.

Chi, the seafood staff was also helpful and empathetic of the situation and directed us to talk with the Manager in the beginning.

Natasha, our 2nd cashier was amazing with a friendly smile and quick with the transaction.

Unfortunately, our interaction with cashier Hikari was a bit disappointing. She firmly points 👉 directly to the bottom of the receipt showing store policies. The staff have already given us instructions to speak with the "cashier manager" and Hikari firmly explains again the rules to us, reassuring to us that it does not matter whether we speak to the manager or not. "Hikari are you the manager? No, I'm not but he will tell the same thing." Can we please speak with the manager then? She steps a side expressing frustration in care and then called him.

We don't expect great, or excellent customer service, but the sense of interaction with Hikari can be felt without the exchange of words. We hope the best for Hikari and not having to be frustrated all the time when delt with difficult situations.

This whole interaction was all within from store to parking lot then back to store within reasonable...

I have been a regular customer for many many years. I have enjoyed the quality and freshness of their sushi to-go. Prices were great and portions generous. Recently I picked up a few meals of sushi rolls. I was surprised to see they have changed from fresh made wasabi paste, to small packets made in Japan. There has also been a noticeable price increase, which I understand, as their prices have always been reasonable. Extremely disappointing, was the wasabi packet, a thick gluey sweet paste that is good for 5 months. Ingredients: horseradish, sorbitol, sugar, cornstarch, rapeseed oil, salt, soy flour, water, wasabi flavouring, turmeric, citric acid, xanthan gum, brilliant blue (FCFFD&C Blue No.1). Years ago they changed from fresh pickled ginger to the Japanese packed, candied preserved forever ginger, but the wasabi is unforgivable. It seems like such a small portion of the meal, but totally ruined my lunch. Sushi is just not the same without good wasabi. Unfortunately I'll have to get my sushi fix elsewhere. Please...

Fujiya is a Japanese supermarket with several branches within Vancouver and one in Victoria. They are a great place for picking up ingredients for Japanese home cooking, and also carry a good selection of ready made, prepacked foods for when you don't have the time, energy or desire to eat in a sit down restaurant. They've got rolls, sashimi, bento boxes, onigiri, donburi...etc. For a supermarket, the quality of the food is very good. (Avocado roll is my personal favourite as they are very generous with avocado. I hate it when restaurants skimp on the ingredients!)

We stopped here to get some food that we could take to my mom's place for dinner and bought: Aji Fry Box Bento, Saba Box Bento, Creamy Corn Croquette, Inari Sushi Pack, Takoyaki, California Roll and Spicy Dynamite Roll

I recommend shopping at the location on Clark Drive if you can. It's the biggest one so it's got the best selection!
