Hands down - BEST PIZZA PLACE EVER in Vancouver!!!!!
First of all for Hawaiian pizza lovers - they DO NOT have pineapple or Hawaiian so giving you a heads up so you’re not disappointed lol. They’re a traditional pizza place where you use these gigantic scissors to cut your pizza up at the table yourself with a pretty blue wood fire oven and a backyard patio under grape vines. There’s a sweet front patio and takeout window that you can order from and benches at the front to sit while waiting. Came at 8pm and it wasn’t packed; we were able to sit in the backyard surrounded by local Italian patrons (always a great sign to have Italians eat at a pizza place!) and also came on a weekend and would’ve had to wait an hour for a spot but we took the bar seats. Niki our server in the backyard patio is AMAZING; always cheery and bright, definitely made our night with her helpfulness and positive attentiveness. Plus my kiddo loved Niki and enjoyed chatting with her.
Now onto the food:
The MEATBALLS are so moist and flavourful; price is for one each and I highly recommend ordering this.
Caprese salad is good, can’t go wrong but nothing special, still good though.
Pizza: the meat pizza we ordered (can’t recall which exactly, but I think it had capicola) was super full of meat toppings while funghi was absolutely amazing - full of cheese and mushrooms, perfect blend, generous toppings and so good! Second time I ordered the funghi again and tried a new creation - pesto walnut pizza and surprisingly this was the winner of all three! Definitely recommend the pesto walnut one if you can as this was just spectacular - trust me.
Dessert - had the warmed sugar donut and it was okay; would pass on this and maybe try another like tiramisu next time!
For drinks - had the Skaha rosé which they kept chilled and we had Milton at the bar slicing up fresh orange peels and lighting them up with a lighter before popping them into Negronis so I had a Negroni as well and it made all the difference!! The orange peel’s essential oils definitely are more noticeable this way. Really enjoyed sipping the Negroni and watching Milton work nonstop with his bar magic; don’t think I saw him idle at all!! Also had limoncello shots and they were SO delicious, reminded me of Positano especially as we had these in the backyard patio under the grape vines; plus the portion of limoncello is pretty generous.
All in all - the high ratings are 100% deserved for this neighborhood pizza gem. Very well worth the wait but if you’re in a pinch, order from the takeout window or sit at the bar or come after dinner...
Read moreDiner Beware! My husband and I had dinner at Via Tevere Pizzeria last weekend. Later on that evening, we both began to feel very sick. We were very sick all night. It was bad! (I will spare you with the unpleasant details) This was no coincidence. We are sure it was something we ate at the restaurant that caused this, as we ate nothing prior. The cheese on the pizzas tasted very pungent, and the pizza dough was soggy. The cheese slide right off when you picked up a slice. The Tiramisu is overrated, and mediocre. It was not my favourite meal. We of course contacted the restaurant and made them aware that we got sick. They took multiple days to respond back to us, and instead of offering a resolution, they said they had to conduct an “investigation”.
They asked us the following questions, word for word:
“Full name of yourself and your husband, along with contact information (address, telephone number, date of Birth) ?
What time did your and your husband’s symptoms appear? What symptoms did you have? How long did your symptoms last? Did you have a fever?
Did either of you go to hospital?
Do you take any medication?
Did you take any leftovers home and if so, can you please send a picture?
Did you and your husband share both pizzas and tiramisu? Or did he eat his own and you ate your own?
I felt interrogated. How are these questions relevant?! How is my personal home address, and date of birth going to help investigate a food poising situation? And, do they think I noted down what time I started throwing up? Do they think I have leftover pizza in my fridge 5 days later that I can take a picture of? It seems they were intentionally trying to make this difficult, instead of apologizing and taking responsibility. They offered zero resolution. I am very disappointed in their customer service, and will not be dining there again. If you ever eat at the restaurant, and get sick by something you ate there, you are on your own. They will not apologize or take any responsibility. I have dined at endless restaurants around the globe, and I have never experienced such a lack of customer service. They don’t care about their customers, they just care about your money. There are so many amazing pizzerias in the city. Stay...
Read moreI wish I had read the reviews before I went there. I see I am not the only one that got sick from the restaurant.
My wife and I dined at Via Tevere recently. We unfortunately got horribly sick from our meal. I have a pretty strong stomach, and have eaten from food carts all over the world, therefore if I get sick, that is a very bad sign. We know it was the meal that caused us to get sick, as we intermittent fast, and we had nothing prior to that meal. And the fact that both of us got sick is not a coincidence.
Please note the pizza makers are not very sanitary, we literally saw one of the guys come out of the bathroom, with fresh dough on his hands, indicating he did not wash his hands after using the bathroom. I am not saying that is what caused us to get sick, I just want future diners to know how unsanitary that is.
Either way, we reached out to the restaurant, and made them aware of us getting food poising. We had a very bad case, therefore we did go see a doctor, and they did confirm that we did indeed have food poisoning. The restaurant owner Dom took zero responsibility, and instead said he had to “investigate” the situation. He bombarded us with ridiculous questions, such as asking us our home address, Our date of birth, and If we take any medication!? There were much more ridiculous questions to follow, all irrelevant questions. He had the nerve to suggest that our intermittent fasting caused us to get sick. We have been intermittent fasting for years, therefore we are seasoned at this. He also suggested that something we ate the day before could have made us sick!? His response to the situation was very concerning. Instead of trusting his customers, and being understanding, and acknowledging facts, he denied them, and tried to make excuses for the fact that what we ate at his restaurant, caused us to have food poising.
He did not offer any resolution. I have lived in Vancouver for nearly 3 decades, and I have never experienced such awful Customer Service. I would suggest you eat at any other restaurant. It is not worth getting sick. If you end up getting sick, they will take zero responsibility. The food is mediocre, the customer service is even worse, and it definitely wasn’t worth getting...
