If I could give zero stars I would. What a complete waste of my money, time and energy. I came to Danson because my Breville Barista Express started having issues. After years of using it with no issues, it started being inconsistent. Sometimes it would pull an espresso shot properly, but sometimes the pressure gauge wouldn’t go up or would go too far. Sometimes it would spit out a shot and sometimes it was pouring, despite using the same coffee, grind settings, etc. the issue was around the pressure, the flavour of the shots being pulled (anyone who knows espresso knows that the flavour matters and you can taste the difference between a shot that’s been pulled well and one that hasn’t), and the consistency.
I chose Danson because of the reviews but I was fooled. In the end I wasted $200, multiple trips to Vaughn from over an hour away and many bags of coffee. I made the mistake of telling Dan I didn’t want to spend over $200 on the machine to repair it. so coincidentally he charged me $190 to "replace a part". I put that in quotes because when i asked to see my damaged part, immediately after he told me he replaced it, he told me had thrown the part out and couldn't show me. This was long before I picked up my machine.
The first time Dan said it was repaired and sent me a video to show it pulling a shot. Immediately I responded that one video wouldn't demonstrate its fixed since the issue was consistency, and also that it was pulling much differently from what i was used to. It was all crema. condescendingly he told me I didn't know a proper shot and that it was perfect. I picked up the machine despite my better judgment and when i got home it was not working and had the same pressure and flavour issues as before. I sent Dan videos, and after a back and forth on the phone he agreed to replace a part related to the pressurizing system for free if I brought it back again. I drove all the way back and then he told me he wasn't going to put the new part in because the issue was the grind and grinder, which had never come up before. After troubleshooting for some time together with the grind we managed to pull a few decent shots and things were looking up. But again the issue was consistency. I left with the machine and tried it again at home and the pressure gauge was not engaging properly again. I texted Dan and he said he wasn't sure what was happening and then told me I don't know how to use my machine and he wont be fixing it or refunding me whatsoever.
TLDR: I drove to Vaughn multiple times after he said my machine was fixed and it wasn't. I let him mansplain coffee to me many times and even purchased beans he recommended, water (!) he recommended for the machine, i literally did everything he told me to do for the machine. I have also worked as a barista on several espresso machines and have had this machine with no issues for years. I've trained newbies on an espresso machine and though it takes some skill, It's embarrassing that this man wants to blame the issue on my competence. I took this machine to a new repair person certified by Breville and it cost me slightly more and has been working seamlessly since. I would like my money back from Danson because I spent almost $300 between his fee, gas, coffee and water to have my machine work EXACTLY the same as it did when I dropped it off. I understand he spent time on the machine but he did not diagnose or repair it properly and wasted my time and money. Incredibly disappointed and feel really bamboozled and ripped off by this guy. Probably won't trust a random man working put of his basement...
Read moreBuyer Beware!! Terrible customer service led to disappointment as well as wasted time and money. First experience getting my e61 fixed went well so I went back a year later to repair other issue. Dan advised a steam valve needed to be replaced as well as a pressure switch. $420 later, I picked up the machine and started brewing again. Unfortunately, a week later, the steam valve started leaking again. I texted Dan and while at first he seemed like he was willing to help, he waffled on his commitments and left me high and dry. In the thread of texts that ensued from there, I discovered he only rebuilt the valve instead of a replacing it. I felt mislead as he was unclear in that communication but hey, caveat emptor so maybe that's on me.I should have noticed the teeth marks he gouged into the existing valve. He assured me he would come to repair the issue. Sadly, that went from 'be there Wednesday or Thursday' to 'maybe this afternoon or tomorrow morning' when I followed up, then 'maybe Monday/Tuesday next week.' It soon became clear that it was lip service as he was unwilling to commit to a time nor did he follow through on multiple occasions. He eventually offered to 'mail the new valve and FaceTime' to walk me through the replacement. I repeatedly expressed my discontent as a consumer in a direct, open, honest, respectful and matter of fact dialogue via text. Regrettably, each message was met with increasingly combative tone until he began using foul language and attempted to charge an additional $140 to send me what is an $80 steam tap. That's when I terminated communication and still have a broken machine. I recommend taking your espresso machine to a reputable bricks and mortar operation as the prices and service offered here leave a lot to be desired. Anyone looking for confirmation of the txt thread is welcome to DM for more info and to judge for...
