"Sailing into Team Building: A Memorable Office Outing on the Spirit of Buffalo" Last week, our team at FIFTEEN embarked on an extraordinary office outing aboard the Spirit of Buffalo, launching from the vibrant Canalside district. The experience was not just a breath of fresh air away from the office; it was an adventure that brought us closer together as a team. From the moment we stepped onto the beautifully maintained sailboat, the atmosphere was electric with excitement. The Spirit of Buffalo, with its classic design and welcoming crew, promised an experience unlike any typical team-building exercise. As we set sail on the clear waters, the stunning views of Buffalo's waterfront provided a picturesque backdrop that left us all in awe. The crew members were exceptional – not only in navigating the boat but also in engaging us in the sailing experience. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and patient, encouraging even the most hesitant among us to participate in hoisting the sails. This hands-on activity was a highlight, as it fostered a sense of teamwork and collaboration, essential elements in our field of advertising and marketing. What made this outing particularly special was the opportunity it provided for informal bonding. Away from the hustle of our regular work environment, we shared stories, laughed, and got to know each other on a deeper level. This kind of interaction is invaluable in a creative industry like ours, where understanding and trust among team members can spark the most innovative ideas. Moreover, the serene environment of the open water was a perfect setting for reflecting on our goals and aspirations as a company. It was inspiring to discuss our visions and future projects in such a peaceful setting, surrounded by the beauty of nature. The Spirit of Buffalo experience was more than just an office outing; it was a memorable journey that strengthened our bonds, invigorated our spirits, and reminded us why we love working in the dynamic world of advertising and marketing. As we returned to Canalside, we felt a renewed sense of camaraderie and a deeper connection to the beautiful city of Buffalo that we call home. In summary, the Spirit of Buffalo offered an extraordinary experience that went beyond mere enjoyment. It was an investment in our team's unity and creativity, an experience that we will talk about for years to come. We highly recommend it to other businesses looking for an engaging and unique team-building activity.

The Ice at Canalside has been a great feature of downtown since 2014. And everyone working there is super nice! How awesome is it to have a great place to skate in such a wonderful location. But as I have mentioned several times in the past, I hope they have something set up this year to prevent the melted snow dripping from the bridge that causes mounds to build up on the ice below. There are several solutions, including making sure the bridge is cleared of snow and ice, to putting some type of webbing beneath it to divert the water from dripping onto the ice. Also, once again it would be nice if there were a live webcam so people considering a trip to the rink could see the conditions, and could see when the next Zamboni break would be coming up. Many other rinks have this. The red center ice design is so faded this year. It'd be nice to see that special spot, which was center ice at the Aud, be highlighted. And can we please rotate the skating direction (clockwise/counterclockwise) every few hours?

When I visit Canalside today, I remember what it was like when I was a kid and I have a hard time believing it’s the same place. But it is! And it’s so much cooler now. The ships and other military stuff (tank, plane, etc) were always there. If they weren’t so big, you might not even know there was a tourist attraction, with all the dirt and gravel and chain link fences under a highway overpass… But now, they’re surrounded by flowers and trees and green grass and nice landscaping! Plus there’s shops and museums and restaurants. There’s a merry-go-round and a pit of sand for kids to play in. There’s a skating rink. Events are hosted here all summer long. It’s morphed from “oh yeah, the dirty area with ships next to the arena” to one of my favorite parts of Buffalo. It’s small. It’s charming. It’s a perfect little encapsulation of some Buffalo culture.

Nice downtown area attractions for those who want to enjoy the outdoors. You have water activities such as kayaks, peddle boats, and water bikes. You also can book a ride on the bigger boats such as Mrs Buffalo, and the Grand lady. Walking across the boardwalk, you have a few food vendors as well as artist doing cartoon portraits. There is a area where you can picnic or even relax in the lawn chairs that is provided there. There's even a huge sandlot for the kids to play in. When your done you have the Naval marina adjacent to the canal side and even a kids explore and more building. This afternoon was a little less crowded and not to much activities going on. If there are no concerts or other organized events going on this place is fairly boring. I would like to see more attractions down here like, a mini carnival and even more venders.

Over the years Buffalo has had difficulties getting out of its own way. Way to many hands involved, with this IDA and that IDA, gov't agencies, interest groups both public and private. See the new Peace Bridge...oh wait millions in federal funding pulled because nobody could agree to anything. BUT....Canalside is a jewel in downtown Buffalo! The harbor, restaurants, Naval Park, outdoor rink at the Silos. It brought my wife and I back downtown after years of having little reason to go. Love Liberty Hound Restaurant, awesome fish fry! A moderate length walk to the Hofbrau House too. Great fun at Hofbrau for sure! Parking can be a challenge...wish they could develope rail transport from a few points out in the burbs. A fun stop and a jewel for Buffalo for sure. Definitely worth the minor aggregation s in getting there!
