After 30 years, through the 70's, 80's and 90's, ineffective waterfront commissions twiddled their thumbs while this post industrial waterfront land languished. Finally the right people at the right time decided to get in action. The result is an extended park that goes for miles along Buffalo's inner harbor connected by walking and bike paths. The vestiges of old slips where Great Lakes steamers once moored separate a series of contiguous sub parks of which Wilkerson Pointe is one. It's clear the designers were allowed to play while designing this park. There is a small beach, a large field for playing and events, winding trails, picnic shelters, bathrooms, and the cherry on top, the whimsical stainless steel mobile sculpture that stands on top of a spiral pathed hill. As the sculpture captures the wind off the lake like a high tech weather vane, it connects visitors to the site, reminding us we're at the edge on an inland ocean and of how we harvested the elements to move ships and build cities. Plus it's just a cool sculpture. We picnic there sometimes then just sit on the edge, our legs dangling over the water and watch the lake, which beautiful any...

I used to love sitting at a table in the shade with my book and watch my family bring our dogs down there to play and now I can't even do that because the tables and chairs are gone and they build up the rock wall around the beach.
The beach is still inaccessible there are giant cement blocks so it's not a straight shot down for a wheelchair and the grass around them is very uneven and hilly like ground for a wheelchair to go over and I got stuck in the rocks and had to ask people to help push me out, then on the way back to the walk way (video is on yelp as you can’t put videos on a google review) my wheelchair was going to flip. There are small simple things that they could have been done, I've been to other beach's that have strips over the sand/ rocks that wheelchairs can ride over.
The building looks nice they added a small golf course. To me it seems like all they did was build the restaurant and build up the rock walls especially...
Read moreI used to love going to this place with my dad! I now hate it! I do not think I would want to go back anymore but, I used to want to go all the time. The new building addition is ugly and I hate the Grey the building looks like a place meant for a science lab. This place has lost all of its charm. I loved the little trailer restaurant and it was so cute for bands to preform on top but now it is gone. I am glad they at least kept the volleyball court but it was much better before. I also hate that they blocked off most of the water with those large, ugly, blocky rocks. This place went from being cute, charming, and a fun place to go to to basic, boring, and in my opinion very ugly. What a waste of 11 million dollars! That money could have went towards something that actually needed fixing! Im very...
