5 Stars – A Full Steam Ahead Experience at Buffalo Naval Park! 🚢⚓️

Visited in July 2025, and wow—the Buffalo Naval Park isn’t just a museum, it’s a time machine in steel and salt air. Where else can you step aboard not one, not two, but three floating giants of American naval history and feel the riveted pulse of World War II echo beneath your boots?

USS The Sullivans (DD-537) was a personal favorite—sleek, fast, and packed with character (much like the five brothers she honors). You don’t just walk her decks—you march them, scanning the horizon like you're on convoy duty in the Atlantic. The ship is lovingly restored, bristling with character, and yes, those 5-inch guns look ready to bark at the next wave of trouble.

Then there’s the USS Little Rock (CL-4)—a Cold War cruiser that’s got more buttons, switches, and Cold War cool than a Bond villain's lair. Climbing through the ship’s labyrinth of compartments felt like being in a tactical escape room with a serious Navy pedigree.

And let’s not forget the USS Croaker (SSK-246)—a diesel-electric submarine where "tight quarters" become an art form. You’ll come out of it with a newfound appreciation for every submariner who lived in a tin can with torpedoes and no headroom.

But the real cherry on this sailor’s sundae? The living history reenactors. These folks weren’t just in uniform—they were in character. From 1940s slang to demonstrations of daily sailor life, they brought wartime Navy culture to life in vivid detail. I half expected Glenn Miller to start playing from the ship’s loudspeaker. Their knowledge, energy, and authenticity made the experience feel like a scene straight out of a wartime newsreel.

Displays of sailor life, bunks, chow lines, radio rooms—they didn’t just show you history; they made you smell the grease, feel the cramped sleeping racks, and imagine the sea spray in your face.

In short, this place is a must for history buffs, curious kids, and anyone who’s ever heard the call of the sea. Bring sunscreen, a curious spirit, and maybe a few sea shanties—you’re going to need them.

10/10 would...
