One of the interesting things to see in Po Fu Lam Country Park is the former Watchman's Cottage stationed at the reservoir in the lower section of the park. This is a Declared Monument building of important historical value in Hong Kong.
Constructed between 1860-63, the cottage is a single story building constructed in Neo-classical architecture, with white exterior, triangular pediments as well as Chinese tiled rooftop. This was an important property during the construction of the important reservoir here in the 1860s, when obtaining fresh and clean water source was an important issue of the times during the early colonial days.
Today the former Watchman's Cottage serves as the Country Park Management Centre, making it one of the oldest surviving buildings still in use in Hong Kong. You can see it from up close when visiting the country park and reservoir...
