SkyPier is the ferry terminal located in the restricted departure area of Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). This terminus opened in 2009, providing direct, air-to-sea ferry service to Macau and various ports of call in nearby mainland China.
Eligible passengers are those who arrive by flight into HKG who want to transfer directly to destinations covered by the ferry companies without passing through Hong Kong immigration. You can also use ferry service to SkyPier as long as you are flying out of HKG with an eligible airline for upstream check-in service. Passengers will need to review which participating airlines list for eligibility directly on the HKG SkyPier website.
There are other important rules/requirements of using SkyPier to be aware of including the need to be at the SkyPier check-in desk 60 minutes prior to outbound departures if you are scheduled to land at HKG and have luggage. Skypier staff will retrieve the luggage for you and have it boarded to the outbound ferry. You then retrieve it when the ferry arrives in Macau or other Chinese port of call. If you don't have luggage, you must arrive 30 minutes before departure from SkyPier.
Similar check-in requirements are in place for ferry departures arriving at SkyPier for your outbound flights. Again, passengers need to check into the details to make sure they have enough time to make use of SkyPier ferry services.
Note: With the recent introduction of the HZMB crossing linking Hong Kong to Macau by bridge with 24 hour bus and shuttle service, the number of regularly scheduled departures from SkyPier to/from Macau has been greatly reduced over the past year. As of recently, there are now only 2-3 daily departures by TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet, the two ferry service providers that cover the SkyPier to Macau routes.
As such, it is very possible that you will do better to simply exit HKG airport and make way to the nearby Hong Kong Port at HZMB for the short 45 minute shuttle transfer to Macau instead of waiting several hours for the next ferry departure...
Read moreI highly recommend the Ferry transfer service from Skypier at Hong Kong International Airport to Shenzhen. It was seamless, and painless. Our luggage was efficiently located and transferred from the Singapore Airlines service to the Ferry, and it was another 30 mins on the ferry to immigration at Shenzhen. As we transited on our flight in Singapore, our luggage was harder to locate as Australia had organised our luggage tags, which meant that we did not have the correct baggage numbers on our Singapore to Hong Kong flight. The staff at the counter were very efficient and called the luggage 'department' and found our luggage! I thought the idea of going through immigration at Hong Kong with our luggage and then trying to make our way to Shenzhen was ridiculous compared to the Ferry option, but I believe the Ferry is not an option the locals were familiar with (go figure!). You do however have to be VERY careful with the transfer times needed, your plane needs to land and you have to present at the transfer desk at least 90mins prior to the ferry, so there was some waiting around. Our plane landed on time at 1700hrs and we were able to get onto the ferry for Shenzhen departing at 1900hrs There is not much to do in the arrival hall shops, except organise our Hong Kong / China SIM card at the...
Read moreSky pier Hong Kong airport terminal is the worst wait area for check in when you arrive from Macau to Hong Kong airport via ferry to catch a flight. There is only sitting area and a washroom here. So if you have come earlier than your check in time be prepared to wait and go hungry. There is only 1 drinking water fountain and no smoking area or lounge. This entire place is freezing cold. The staff is not helpful. You can't go out of the airport once you come in here neither can you go to the other side of the airport where there are restaurants, lounge and shopping area without your boarding pass. You can't check in earlier than your check in time even after repeated requests even if you have health issues. This is so opposite to the hongkong main airport terminal. I wish I knew...
