I'd heard quite a lot about the Kai Tak Sky Garden. In 2019 the old airport runway was just a vast construction site. The changes since are huge with several high-rises and the Sky Garden running between them. But it's still a construction site. At present access is convoluted (or was for me). In the end I got there by walking from Kwon Tung across the Kai Tak Bridge.Road. In fact I could have got there more easily by staying on the North Point Ferry which stops at Kwon Tung first then Kai Tak (possibly weekends only). However, unless you are sure-footed it is not recommended (by me). Getting on and off the ferry is precarious. It doesn't dock, it noses the bow into a stair case. This was the same in 2019. I'm sure this will be improved eventually but there is no hurry apparently. Also, at the ferry dock you aren't very close to the Sky Garden. All that said, I went on a weekend and had this vast space to myself. With all the development in the area this will all change but for now it's debatable if the effort to get there is worth the effort. I don't regret going but there was some effort required (in January 2024). Finally, I expected more of the gardens, a bit...
Read moreKai Tak Runway Park This is the original site of the famously dangerous HK Kai Tak Airport. At 1997 July 1st, it was vacated to Chek Lap Kok New Airport. This old site was developed into an Ocean liner Pier , real estate for luxury apartments and Sky Garden.
It is not easily accessible , still minibuses can take one there at Tedford Gardens at Kowloon Bay; alternatively one can take a ferry service from North point pier to and from Kwun Tong Pier. The boat ride is much better.
Among the whole stretch of the old runway, a Sky Park is built. It looks like a banana shaped island and for people to walk around and see in close ranges of the Kowloon east at one side of it , the Hunghom area, at the other side of it across the harbour Tsat Tze Mui areas of the HK island. A very open view in a very relaxing atmosphere, in short like on deck of an ocean going liner during a cruise.
It was visited on Oct-4-2022. At present ,it is not fully utilized. Written...
Read moreDon’t recommend going there jet lagged to be honest. It was very long and not very interesting lol. I can see how this place could’ve been good but it was pretty disappointing. The flora just looked sad and not tended after. Nothing much to see apart from the luxury apartment buildings. The one cold drink vending machine we found was empty. It would’ve been great if they rented a push scooters from one end to the other as we were absolutely exhausted and thirsty at the end of it and the nearest mall was still a...
