Unfortunately it seems a years time can make quite a difference and I do not recommend a stay at this hotel. My partner and I had a nice stay one year ago- our experience was so memorable that we decided for the final stop on a family vacation to China we would bring the whole family one year later. Our group was a party of eight people- each staying for 5 nights in a total of 4 separate rooms. We chose the Langham in Shanghai with the hopes that we would end our trip with an exceptional experience and we were let down from arrival. All of our rooms were on a very low level- we politely asked for higher floors and our receptionists curtly said nothing could be done.Although this was a mild disappointment , we quickly moved on as my family is amicable overall. Unfortunately that was just a preview of the rest of the lackluster experience. Upon arrival to my room I was immediately locked into the sliding door restroom- maintenance staff was sent quickly to fix the room but I was clearly frustrated and angry after the check in process already. We were then offered to move to a room on a higher floor which we accepted as we had plans to attend to quickly. While en route to our room I was already feeling somewhat guilty as it is not in my nature to be demanding or complain however by this time the rest of my family was letting me know that their rooms situations were even worse with broken equipment, brown marks on the walls and hanging wires ( see pictures attached). We arrived at our new room which was smaller- we were also given a bowl of fruit. No other consolation was offered - admittedly I did not for anything further because I did not see the utility of continuing to receive poor treatment and I am not a beggar. Finally, in the lobby/lounge area my family was repeatedly asked to sit in the corner or undesirable seats over the course of the 5 night stay. We eventually just ignored requests to move seats as we could see no reason to comply and no other ( caucasian) guests seemed to receive this treatment. Aside from all of the obvious reasons we were disappointed with our stay it would be clear to anyone that the overall facilities are outdated and in disarray. All staff within the restaurant, doormen and cleaning staff were kind and pleasant and in no way would I want my review to reflect on their perception. We will be returning for Shanghai for years to come but definitely not staying at this establishment ( or any other Langham hotels) and obviously I would not recommend it as a consideration for other travelers.

The Langham Hotel in Shanghai has the advantage of a convenient location, situated close to the popular Xintiandi shopping district. This proximity offers guests easy access to a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, which is a definite plus for visitors looking to explore the heart of the city. However, the hotel’s ambiance upon arrival is a bit underwhelming. The lobby is somewhat dimly lit and smaller than expected, lacking the grandeur one might anticipate from a luxury hotel. This initial impression could benefit from a brighter, more welcoming design to set the tone for a five-star experience. The room itself offers an adequate view, though it may not be particularly memorable compared to other high-rise hotels in Shanghai. One concerning aspect of the room, however, is the bathroom floor, which can be surprisingly slippery, potentially posing a hazard to guests. Improving the floor’s grip or providing additional bath mats could enhance safety and comfort in the bathroom. Dining in the lobby lounge could also use some refinement. The food quality is average; for instance, the burger we ordered took almost 30 minutes to arrive, and the patty was quite bland, lacking the seasoning that would elevate it to a satisfying meal. Given the hotel’s reputation, there’s room for improvement in both the promptness and quality of the dining experience in the lounge area.

This is a wonderful hotel that made my stay in Shanghai so memorable. Great location! The service is superb and the staff aim to please. The team prepared for us macaroons and cake with baloon to celebrate our event and it was beautiful and thoughtful. The room is very clean and the hotel’s wonderful cleaning staff come to check with us often to make sure we have enough water bottles and everything else we need daily. We arrived on the evening and by morning we smelled something in the room and we were able to move to a different room right away (thanks to Stephen!). Everything is good even though the room has a bit wear and tear. Great view or the city with automatic drapes that open with a touch of a button! Wonderful automatic toilet, amenities provided (thick robes, sandals, tea and coffee machines and cups, etc.), toilettries, luxuries soap and shampoo, large bathroom, great spread of breakfast, spa, pool and gym. Please make sure to add breakfast to your reservation! It is worth it! The only con is something in the room (carpet/wood?) might have a bit of odor in some floor or room. It didnt bother me but my husband mentioned it. We turned on the AC for air circulation and the Chuan spa let us borrow their nice smelling mist machine and signature room spray. We really enjoy our 5 nights stay in Shanghai because of you and we thank the Langham team for all you do!

I recently stayed at The Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi, for three nights during a business trip, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel truly exceeded my expectations in every aspect. The breakfast spread was particularly impressive. It had a great variety of dishes, catering to both local and international tastes, and the quality of the food was consistently excellent each morning. The lounge was equally fantastic—elegantly designed, comfortable, and with an attentive staff that ensured everything was perfect. Speaking of service, the hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. From the front desk to the restaurant staff, everyone was friendly, professional, and always ready to assist with a smile. Their attention to detail truly made a difference. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of Xintiandi. It’s close to numerous attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas, making it incredibly convenient whether you’re there for business or leisure. I’d rate the location a perfect 10 out of 10.

Super nice Hotel in the middle of Shanghai. Lots of high class and luxury stores, shops and restaurant are surrounding this hotel. The rooms are big and 5 star worthy. Im highly delighted by the bathroom since a big rainwater shower is installed as well as a bathing tub. Both in a separate room inside the bathroom. Apart from that most of the controlling within the rooms can be done by a touch panel with buttons. In addition a Bluetooth Speaker is available for the room which can already be considered a small apartment. The room was cleaned everyday and I could not complain about the service at all. Breakfast is versatile and super delicious. Finally the swimming pool and gym area: swimming pool is 25 meters and can also be used for sports purpose. In addition a little whirl pool is available. The gym itself is definitely worth a visit for anyone interested into sports. Lots of different machines and possibilities to train. I can highly recommend this hotel!

I had a wonderful one-night stay at The Langham, Shanghai, Xintiandi in May. From check-in to check-out, everything was seamless and up to the high standards you’d expect from a Langham property. The location is excellent—right in the heart of the Xintiandi district, with great access to shopping, dining, and cultural spots. A special highlight of my stay was the complimentary birthday arrangement thoughtfully prepared by the Guest Relations team. It was a lovely surprise and truly added a personal touch to the experience. Their attention to detail and warm service made the celebration extra memorable. Highly recommend this hotel for both business and leisure travelers looking for luxury, comfort, and attentive service in Shanghai
