Whilst in Bristol, Clifton Cathedral is this named because at the time of the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy after the reformation it was and still is unlawful for the Catholic Church to name a diocese after a pre existing Anglican diocese. Thus Clifton. The cathedral is from the early 1970s and thus similar to architecture of the time quite brutal and concrete winning a concrete award in 1973. The building is light and each seat has a clear line of sight to the Cathdra. The garden has a memorial to the polish katayn massacre committed by the Red Army in 1940s but credited to the Nazis of killing the Polish officer corp and others.

An incredible piece of brutalist architecture in the centre of leafy Clifton. The spire that sits on top of the lantern tower can be seen from across Bristol. However the outside (which isn’t that great to be honest) doesn’t really prepare you for what’s inside. Oceans of poured in-situ concrete forming a huge hexagon around the altar. Light flooding down from roof lights. Shattered pieces of coloured glass making up horizontal bands of light. Icons floating on walls of concrete. Stations of the cross carved as the concrete set. It’s got it all and I love it.

It's not much to look at from the outside, but inside its a peaceful, sparsely decorated place of worship. Light and airy and simply colour coordinated concrete, wood and ceramic floor tiles. The stained glass windows are offset and all seats have a good view to the altar. I visited with my wife and we remembered our dad's with the lighting of a candle

Unfortunately I've had an extremely bad experience with Clifton Cathedrale.

Initially I Joined last year (2023) and was extremely grateful for their Christmas gatherings which were lovely, joyous and delightful.

However I was targeted by a male criminal at this event who upon our first meeting told me he had just left prison for DV. Obviously I was concerned.

I reported this to staff yet nothing was done and yet he attended socials still. I didn't feel listened to or heard. I wasn't informed about their safeguarding procedures for situations like this after reporting it.

Having worked in safeguarding I'm absolutely shocked. It's a real shame as I'm Christian and enjoyed attending services. Especially listening to the beautiful choir and echoes in the building.

Christian women need to be protected at all costs and kept safe too. People's safety should not be jepodardised. Yes we are all forgiven in god's grace and Christ yet we need a level of accountability and safety also.

I had to seek another church and community. Many people victimised me for speaking out about it and my testimony of being sent back where I had a full NDE was also deleted.

I do wish everyone in service there well but I hope that safety and protection of women and children can be looked at...

Not religious myself, went to support my family. Beautiful modern church with an interesting backstory about its construction. Has some beautiful modern stained glass windows. I enjoyed going, though, I cannot put my finger on what but something was missing in the church in comparison to others I'd been to. Felt a little too empty, but I think in time with general use and having many people over the years show their love in different ways will give it its charm eventually. The priests were very approachable and happy to help! Thank you Father Declan! (I didn't get your last name, sorry if I'm being disrespectful) areas for silence there and to light candles in the name of passed loved ones. The chairs are interesting as they have cushions attached to the back in order to prey on knees as they do not have traditional pues. Plenty of parking round the front and back with disabled access and help available. 10/10 would go again,...
