The Botanical Gardens in Bogotá left us absolutely enchanted. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by an oasis of lush greenery and vibrant blooms, a stark contrast to the bustling city outside. This garden is a true gem, offering a peaceful retreat and a feast for the senses.

One of the first things that struck us was the incredible diversity of plant species. Each section of the garden showcases different ecosystems from across Colombia, highlighting the country’s rich biodiversity. The variety of flowers, trees, and shrubs was simply astonishing, each more beautiful than the last. The garden's layout is both informative and aesthetically pleasing, making it easy to explore and enjoy.

The orchid collection was particularly impressive, with a stunning array of colors and varieties that captivated us. We also loved the tropical rainforest section, which featured towering palms and exotic plants that made us feel as though we had been transported to another world. The sensory garden was another highlight, designed to engage all the senses and offering a unique and immersive experience.

What truly made our visit special was the careful attention to detail and the evident passion of the staff. The gardens are meticulously maintained, with every plant and pathway cared for with love and expertise. The informative signage and educational exhibits provided fascinating insights into the flora and fauna, enhancing our appreciation and understanding of Colombia’s natural heritage.

In addition to the plant collections, the Botanical Gardens in Bogotá offer a range of activities and attractions. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the beautifully designed Japanese garden, with its serene ponds and artfully arranged plants. The butterfly house was another delight, allowing us to see these delicate creatures up close in a habitat that mimics their natural environment.

The gardens also serve as a hub for conservation and research, and it was inspiring to learn about the efforts being made to preserve Colombia’s native species and ecosystems. The educational programs and workshops offered are a testament to the garden’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

Our visit to the Botanical Gardens in Bogotá was a highlight of our trip. It’s a place where nature’s beauty is celebrated and preserved, offering a sanctuary of tranquility and learning in the heart of the city. We left feeling rejuvenated and inspired, with a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Whether you’re a plant enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply looking for a peaceful escape, the Botanical Gardens in Bogotá are not...

A Peaceful Escape in Bogotá – Worth the Visit!

If you’re looking for a relaxing break from the city, the Jardín Botánico de Bogotá is the perfect spot. It’s a beautiful, well-kept garden with a huge variety of plants from all over Colombia. Whether you’re into nature, photography, or just want a quiet place to walk around, this place has something for you.

🌿 Lots to See & Do

The garden is home to tons of different plants and flowers, including orchids, towering palm trees, and even a section dedicated to medicinal plants. The greenhouse is especially cool—it recreates different Colombian ecosystems, from the rainforest to the high-altitude páramo.

One of my favorite parts was the butterfly garden—it’s small but really peaceful, and you can see butterflies up close. The rose garden and the lake area are also great spots to stop and enjoy the scenery.

🌳 Relaxing & Well-Maintained

The whole place is super clean and well taken care of. The trails are easy to walk, and there are plenty of benches if you just want to sit and take in the fresh air. It’s a great place to unwind, take photos, or even have a quiet moment to yourself.

📸 Great for Pictures

If you like taking photos, you’ll love this place. The colors, plants, and overall vibe make for some great shots. The lake, orchids, and tropical plants are all worth capturing.

🎟️ Easy & Affordable Visit

The entrance fee is very reasonable, and it’s easy to get to. Staff is friendly, and everything is well-marked, so you won’t get lost.

Why Go?

✔ Beautiful plants and flowers from all over Colombia ✔ Peaceful, relaxing atmosphere ✔ Perfect for photography ✔ Affordable and well-kept

📍 Location: Near Simón Bolívar Park, so you can visit both in one day!

Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Bogotá and want to see some of Colombia’s incredible plant life...

I visited this garden two years ago and loved it. This visit....not so much. This botanical garden would by 5 stars any other time, but you are required to do a group tour “due to Covid” now. Perhaps the tour would be better if we understood the guide (in Spanish, which is normally expected) and had interest in learning details about certain trees and plants. We really just prefer to wander around at leisure, by ourselves instead of with 20 strangers (especially during Covid).

This is also one of the Colombian “Covid bio securities” that makes no sense. There is a huge garden to get lost in and easily avoid other people, yet they make you walk in a group and huddle close together to hear a guide. I understand signing up online for an entrance timeframe (which btw you need to do 2-3 days in advance of when you want to visit the gardens). However, it would make more sense to limit traffic by having entrance times, exit times (say 1.5-2hr visits) and let people spread out.

To make it worse, we had a rainstorm towards the end of our tour. The group was allowed to go into the coffee shop for shelter but when we went to a nearby covered bridge we were told we couldn’t stand there. There wasn’t another person in sight around us, but we were told to either go to a crowded shop or stand at the entrance for cover with other...
