We had such an amazing experience at the Butterfly Garden in La Fortuna! The $15 entry fee per person was absolutely worth it for what turned out to be a fun, educational, and authentic tour.
The visit included not only the butterfly garden but also a walk through a fruit and plant garden. Our guide, Argi, made the experience even more special. He was incredibly knowledgeable, super funny, and so kind. He explained everything clearly and made the whole tour feel very personal and engaging.
We got to try fresh fruits straight from the trees—starfruit, mangoes, sugar cane—and Argi took the time to explain the health benefits of each one, as well as how to eat and cook with them. It felt so genuine and connected to the local culture.
For the butterfly garden itself, Argi walked us through the life cycle of butterflies using real-life examples, which made the experience both fascinating and interactive. To top it all off, he prepared fresh pineapple and mango juices for us at the end—free and included with the tour!
If you're looking for something authentic, fun, and led by an incredible guide, I highly...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I found this place randomly after completing some activities earlier in the day. We were greeted by Lola the dog, Carmelo the gray tabby cat and Argi, the worker there who absolutely loves his job. He gave us a drink of our choosing before we started the tour, we chose the pineapple drink and we were not disappointed. Argi then showed us the enclosed garden area where there were so many species of butterflies flying around and he explained which ones there are and what makes them special. Our personal favorite was the one that had the owl eyes and snake head pattern on the outer wing. After we got our fix of butterflies, Argi walked us through the garden where the tropical fruits were. Argi explained which fruits were what and also let us try some right off of the branches, all the while, Carmelo was following us playing as a second tour guide. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and Argi was a great tour guide and is an amazing asset to...
Read moreMy friend and I visited here today. What a calming and lovely experience. We got to speak with Juan who shared his knowledge about the butterflies, plants and local fauna (speaks great English too). He is so calming and pleasant to talk with and so kind. The butterfly garden was so beautiful, an incredibly diverse array of butterflies and plants. They fly all around you and land on you. Some will climb right onto your finger. I probably could have sat in there for hours without getting bored. There is also a new fruit tree garden out front with a huge variety of species for plant and tree lovers. Would...
