One of the best experiences my family and I from Tampa had in Costa Rica when we visited December 2023. We did this after the ATV ride tour which was great. And our experience with Wave Rafting was fantastic. I got plenty wet as one of the front guys and the whole experience was exhilarating. It was both fun and a good workout. Our guide was Isaac/Ike (a ginger haired and bearded guy from Tennessee) and he was a great guide. He cracked us up with stories, gave us clear instructions, complimented us throughout, and overall made this a very enjoyable experience. I highly recommend it. The whole experience was great for under $150 (and I was part of a group of 6).
The whole experience was like 6 hours long, starting from 10:30 AM on the bus and arriving back in La Fortuna by 4:30 PM. The actual rafting is about 2 hours long. Make sure to bring a pair of clothes to get wet with and another pair of clothes to change into afterwards.
Here's a breakdown of the whole thing so you know what to expect.
We first started in La Fortuna where at 10:30 AM, we got on the bus and drove 1 hour to to where the river was. The bus was nice and we saw plenty of pineapple plantations on the way. If you're from India like me, a lot of the Costa Rican countryside from the scenery to the palm trees and the houses reminds me of Kerala. Half the time, I'd be thinking I'm in Kerala until I see a sign in Spanish, lol.
Anyways, after an hour, we reach the river and get out of the bus. From there, the Wave Rafter guides instruct us on the safety instructions and information about the river. On the scale of river rafting, this route was a 2 to 3 out of 6. So then we put on the helmet, life jacket, and the paddle and join our groups with our respective guides and we get into the water. From there, we raft the river.
Halfway through, we all stop at a place to eat a snack and fuel up. The guides all bring either a watermelon or pineapple with them. We see them efficiently cut up the watermelon and pineapples to serve to us to eat. They were both really delicious. After that, we head back into the river until we reach back to the office.
Once we reach back, we disembark and return the river rafting gear. We use the dressing rooms to change into our change of clothes and they also offer us some drinks (juices and beer) from the cooler they brought. From there, we get back on our bus (our rafting guides come with us as well) where we drive for 5 minutes to a resort where have our lunch, at around 3:00 PM. And boy do they not skimp out on the food. The food was nice and we were all piling it up on our plates. Half of my group were in food comas on the way back. This is also the time and place to tip your guides so make sure to do so. The photos are for $40.
After eating and using the bathroom, we return on the bus back to La Fortuna which is an 1 hour trip and from which I'm typing out this review. Overall, I had an absolutely fantastic time here with Wave Rafting and I recommend checking this place out if you want a great white river rafting experience in Costa...
Read moreGood afternoon,
I wanted to write as well as leave a review on Trip Advisor. We had the best experience of a lifetime today.
Daniel Peraza was our guide (actually for the trip and he was our guide in our raft). This guy is phenomenal!! The best!!! Without him and his planning I may not have made this trip. Last year I had a total right knee replacement and total right hip replacement. Both are great and I ride my horse 4 days a week but this trip and muscles you need to work are different. Daniel did everything he could to insure my comfort and safety to be able to enjoy this trip in your beautiful country. He was just incredible. His care and compassion for the guests was first rate. I can’t say enough good things about him.
The company is organized and follows a schedule which I appreciated. Daniel and our driver Lorenzo were great with keep us all on track. Speaking of Lorenzo—he was quiet but very “present” and kind and happy greeting us and talking a bit. He had our safety as his priority!!
I just can’t say enough. Because of your company, Daniel and Lorenzo— I just might try this again. My husband loves an adventure so we will be back and hopefully to be with our new friends Daniel and Lorenzo. BTW, the photographer was really talented and captured photos we never would have been able to get obviously. We appreciated him showing us the photos (which we purchased-all 81 of them) and look forward to these memories for years to come.
Bravo!!!!

Read moreWe booked the class 2/3 rapid trip before online.
We drove ourselves to the store front and did street parking for a 10:30 departure.
You're riding on a large charter bus so you can bring anything you want on the bus and the bus will act as a locker while you're paddling. Bring a change of clothes and a tip for after the trip. WAVE has towels to use and has water, beer and juices after the paddle.
Midway on the 1 hour journey to the put in site, the bus stops for a bathroom break.
Here you meet your guide. We had Meeka from America. She'll be here for another two weeks if you're looking for someone who definitely knows how to read rapids, communicates in great English and has a fantastic personality. Safety first but fun is a close second with her.
My 10 year old was excited from the beginning. My younger son warmed up and started to enjoy things about a third of the way through. Midway though the paddle you stop for a snack (in our case fresh pineapple and watermelon). Right before you stop to eat, the boats will let interested paddlers get out and jump off a high riverbank into the river. After the paddle is done, you return your gear, there are changing rooms and you get on the bus for a 5 minute ride to lunch around 2p.
The lunch is delicious! We had veges, rice, beans, juices, either chicken, fish or beef and more! A giant plate.
When you factor in the cost of the bus and food this is an all day bargain in our book.
Everyone is super nice. I can't see how any other rafting trip...
