We very much enjoyed our dinner at Garra Pata! We are a group of San Francisco California Foodies who love to eat and to cook. We are picky about our food! Some of us have dined throughout Costa Rica for 20 years. The staff here is excellent, attentive and willing to answer all questions about the menu and even some of our crazy cultural questions. Our meals arrived in a very timely fashion. We ordered the special ceviche appetizer which was huge and really delicious. It came with a charred half lime filled with flaming Cointreau (may have been Triple Sec) which was not only unique, but the smokey flavor was delicious! The natural juice drinks are most excellent. I ordered the lemonade with passion fruit. You could fully taste the passion fruit! Yum!!! The tilapia entree was moist and served over mashed potatoes which were good. There wasn’t a lot of spice flavor in the tilapia garlic sauce, but the salad was fresh and the tomatoes were red, ripe and flavorful. The black beans served with the patacones were excellent and well seasoned. I had the chifrijo. I have a very high bar for chifrijo and I’d give it a 7-8 out of 10. Good, but not the best I’ve ever had in 20 years of dining in Costa Rica, mainly because there was too much liquid in the pico de gallo. A quick pass through a strainer before adding could easily have fixed this problem. Overall, we really enjoyed our dining experience, our food and beverages were excellent and the service was very friendly and very welcoming. We paid about $100 for 3 people (less the additional 10% tip), including the ceviche appetizer, 3 entrees, 2 glasses of decent wine, and the juice beverage. We were satisfied and too full for dessert. We recommend Garra Pata and will...
Read moreMy partner and I was recommended this restaurant for our dinner from our tour director at Go Ahead Tours in Oct 2022. I think we ordered the Specialties Mixed Grill for two people. We received a grill plate with pork, chicken, beef, and fried shrimp. The order also comes with each person getting a plate of veggies. mash potato, and something else with cheese and two desserts (we got Three Milks and cheesecake). For me, the chicken and pork was dry and tough. The shrimp was good and I don't have much of an impression of the beef... I liked the mashed potatoes. The portion sizes were really big so we only had a bite of the dessert. I remember them being good. My partner said everything was good for him.
Just something to note, one of our group member got the Tomahawk and it came out raw in the middle. They had to send it back to the kitchen. We were a pretty big group (10+), so I think we overwhelmed the kitchen because someone in our group mentioned the kitchen staffs having a squabble. The person taking our orders were really patient in taking our orders and providing...
Read moreThe steak there is delicious, it’s a very decent portion and will definitely leave you feeling very full and satisfied. However, we ordered the Tomahawk with Jumbo Shrimps for 2 people to share which was quite pricy for the taste. The shrimps were a little over cooked and the taste of char on them was overpowering. Also, the Tomahawk steak on its own was 38,500 colones while the dish with Jumbo Shrimps added is 55,000. For that price difference, you’d expect at least a little more than 3 charred pieces of shrimp. The steak was very good and well seasoned in some parts and others were very fatty and hence difficult to eat. The steak could have definitely used a bit of sauce. Our friend however ordered the tenderloin and it was absolutely delicious. So my recommendation would be to go for that instead saving money and enjoying a much tastier meal. Also, the Tomahawk dish was quite plenty for 2, so might be unnecessary to go for starters if you’re going for that choice. The nachos for starters were great and their guacamole dip was so so good! In terms of service,...
