A True Culinary Gem in La Fortuna

During a short stay in La Fortuna for a much-needed mental reset, I had the pleasure of dining at several local spots—but none came close to Restaurante El Perezoso. This was by far the best restaurant experience of my trip.

From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of calm. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfectly reflecting the natural beauty of the surrounding area. But the true standout was the food—so fresh, vibrant, and lovingly prepared. Every bite tasted like it came straight from the earth, crafted with real intention and care.

I tried the Arroz con Mariscos and the Chifrijo, and both were out-of-this-world delicious. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. You could tell the ingredients were locally sourced and thoughtfully combined. Even something as simple as their house juice felt restorative.

Whether you’re in town to explore or, like me, just to recharge, don’t miss a meal here. El Perezoso isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a reminder that food can nourish both...

This place is a rip off. They charged me over five times what the meal should have cost. That’s right, FIVE times! After they charged my credit card, I did the currency exchange and found out how much they overcharged me. When I challenged them on the price, they refused to adjust it. I left and then I came back later because I was so upset and asked them again to adjust the price to the correct price again. They refused. This place is targeting Americans to rip them off. Don’t eat here! This restaurant was my very first meal in Costa Rica on my very first day in the country. What a way to welcome a newcomer to the country. Overall, I’ve had a very bad experience in Costa Rica. So many dishonest people and scams! I had another bad experience with another company. I had scheduled a tour weeks in advance that was canceled at the last minute. It was over $200 and they have not refunded my money. I’ll never come back to this country. Such a nasty place. This place is awesome!!! My wife and I went to Costa Rica to celebrate her birthday. We stayed at La Fortuna Retreat. We were in Costa Rica for a week. Half of the time spent in La Fortuna and the other half at Tamarindo. Our first dinner was at Reataunt El Perezoso. I ordered Mar Y Tierra from the menu and let me tell you, the meal was on point. The steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. They grill the steak over wood fire and it makes the steak taste so much better. The shrimp also very delicious. They garnished the plate elegantly as well. The server provided me a bowl with mint leaves in water and squeezed lemon to clean my hands after eating the delicious shrimp. After this meal, I could not find a better meal elsewhere for the remainder of our trip. The wife agreed. I highly recommend this place. Oh... For a bonus, they have a sloth park right in their backyard, and a unique large bench with a giant Perezoso (sloth) sculpture behind it, perfect...
