Pros: The gate was built in 1567 by Venetians, as a part of the new city walls. It was restored by the Ottomans in 1821, and a lookout was added to the gate for a probable Greek revolt. Now, the gate is used as a tourism information office by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. One of the historical landmarks in Nicosia. The area surrounding the gate has many restaurants, services and hotels. Overall rating is 08/10.

Terrible experience. I visited this information center with a group of friends to ask about the town, museums, and other attractions. The woman at the desk, who didn’t speak English, was incredibly rude and unhelpful. She handed us a map and immediately pointed to the door, clearly wanting us to leave. It seemed like she was more interested in scrolling through her social media than assisting visitors. This happened on Wednesday, May 21st,...

Das Kyrenia-Tor ist eines der drei Haupttore der venezianischen Stadtmauern von Nikosia und befindet sich in Nord-Nikosia, Nordzypern. Es diente einst als wichtiger Zugangspunkt für Reisende und Händler, die in die nördlichen Regionen der Insel, insbesondere nach Kyrenia, unterwegs waren. Erbaut wurde das Tor 1567 von den Venezianern als Teil der neuen Stadtbefestigung. 1821 restaurierten die Osmanen das Bauwerk und fügten einen Wachturm hinzu, um mögliche griechische Aufstände zu überwachen. Unter britischer Herrschaft wurden 1931 weitere Veränderungen vorgenommen. Heute beherbergt das Kyrenia-Tor ein Touristeninformationsbüro der türkischen Stadtverwaltung von Nikosia. Besonders bemerkenswert sind die mehreren Inschriften aus verschiedenen Epochen, die sich am Tor befinden:
