We have been staying in limassol for our holidays for 20 years now and I have found myself questioning the way of thinking that limassol Zoo staff/management and vets have got there.minds set at?!. The mere cats have managed to dig there way so far down under there habitat that it's inevitable that at least half of them will manage to escape in the very near future the otters were living in absolute filth!, you could smell the ammonia from there poo and wee long before you actually got to there enclosure!, the otters have an excellent certikin water pump system and i can only assume filtration system for there swimming pool too but unfortunatly the water was sadly very mrkey and it had a lot of solid waste floating about in it, i would just like to add at this point i have a 1200 gallon pond that have 15 year old japanese koi in it and my pond water on its last check had drinkable water in it, if any animal drank the water in the otters pond then it would most likely be quite ill!, if i can keep.my pond clean then limassol Zoo staff can keep the animals in there care in a safe and comfortable surroundings! Then there's the ring tailed limas...or lack of!, no explanation as to why no ring tailed limas, just an empty enclosure, also we got to the island between the birds enclosure and the monkey enclosure and the mere cats, now I'm absolutely confused because as usual every year there are koi in the pond surrounding the island but what's happened here the little monkeys that live on this island like the ring tailed limas are gone....this is strange have the ring tailed limas and the miniature monkeys pulled a great escape?!. When we got to the big enclosure we saw as we always do 2 pygmy hippos partially submerged in very clean water with koi swimming around them quite happily and ducks but them I remembered seeing at the ticket office one man in the ticket office and one man sitting on a chair taking our tickets and he dropped our tickets into a box then 3 other men just standing around next to the ticket issuing office inside the Zoo gate in Zoo work clothes just talking with the ticket seller and the ticket depositor passing the time of day not working, these guys were there from the moment we all went into the Zoo until the 3 of us left!, if you are going to employ men to take care of the welfare of the Zoo and it's animals you surely need to make sure that you the Zoo management get a false days work for a fair days pay and also the management need to explain why animals are missing and when they will be back and as for water filtration, if I can keep my pond Crystal clear and drinkable running a simple gravity fed filter with u,v. Sterilized and a 10,000 litre an hour pump and I'm disabled and yes I do it on my own then you the limassol Zoo can do it with the very expensive certain equipment you have installed!!. Then may be we will all see much more of the otters!. If you need any help just ask and I'll be more than happy to show you how it's done!, after all you have 4 or 5 guys who like to stand around and chat for 3 hours when they should...

The Wine Festival was organised for the first time in 1961 and since then it has become an established annual event of merrymaking and fun, in which the citizens of Limassol are not the only participants; visitors come also from every part of Cyprus. Its reputation is spread beyond the geographic boundaries of the island. In September of each year, Limassol becomes the attraction of thousands of tourists who visit the Municipal Garden to enjoy the Wine Festival and play with the locals a starring role in this euphoria. They become the protagonists since the Festival is a play which is mounted and the visitors are the enthusiasts, who banish from their mind all concerns and feel an inward sense of comfort, free from social conventions or protocols, in an atmosphere of unconditional fraternization, generated by the mysterious effect of wine. Drinking Cypriot wine is as if the rays of sunlight, the dawn breeze, the atmosphere lucidity, the romantic magic of the land and the sky of Cyprus...
Read moreThe zoo is ok and situated within the municipal park.Don't look for signs for the zoo, there aren't any. It's on the map tourist information will give you.To be honest i feel the animals could really have a better life if the cages and paddocks are bigger.I know people like to get up close and you certainly can at this zoo.Im sure children will enjoy visiting but as an adult i have to say i have visited Durrell In the island of Jersey and they really show how to look after animals, reptiles and birds close to extinction and show how much they care.Same as where i live and we have Marwell Zoo where the zebras and antelopes have a field to live in.I really enjoyed my time in Cyprus butthis zoo could improve the lives of it's inmates. The guy who took my money could do well to be taught how to smile and be welcoming.Maybe take some to visit the creatures and enjoy...
