this is quite an anti-climactic walk with the nicest parts in the beginning. the first strech is definitley well worth the 5 stars ! goes up along the breathtaking coastline and wow that blue water. our hearts started beating a little faster by the sight of the striking shore of pissouri bay and by looking down from the edge of the rocky heights.
it's a moderate to advanced hike, with a few narrow parts around the steep cliffs. we did however come across someone wearing flip flops who made their way through the difficult bits nonetheless, nothing seems impossible. there aren't really a lot of signs indicating the way and the peak point is unclear, so we did get lost off trail frequently. don't worry, we always found our way back though - just beware of the strange military base on the top.
there's a beautiful variety of rocks on the pebble beach that this path leads by. i found one that looks like a smol egg. the cracks on the floor form a very mesmerizing pattern. every now and then some white, purple and yellow tiny flowers grow out of the dry ground, so resilient ! my friend saw a snake, but i didn't see it. she said this one wasn't dangerous though. we weren't afraid.
two fellow hikers greeted us with "servus" upon walking by and we thought it was a bit insensitive to default to ones native language as a tourist and assume everyone would understand this. this place is called cape aspro and i found out that áspro means white in greek. it's most possibly named after the white limestones, but we also encountered a number of cute goats with white fur, so i like to believe they played a role in this name giving process.
had a lil picnic with great views of the ocean. mindblowing how much water the sea holds ! sadly there was some litter down on the cliffs.. how about we all take our trash back and keep this gorgeous place clean ? thank...
Read moreDefinitely a must hike when in Pissouri area. We recommend to hike from Pissouri Village to Pissouri Bay along the blue arrows. The scenery is amazing with all the magical colors. Take some fotos and soak it in and keep it as a good memory before going back to cold European winter. It’s mostly windy so better watch out walking nearby the cliffs. The route is not without danger - wouldn’t recommend if it rains. Wear good shoes (hiking or sneakers) and take some water and a bathing suit with you. The mostly not crowded beach is worth a swim. The hiking route all together took us about 1...
Read moreThis is a moderately challenging loop trail along the blue beach at Pissouri for a total length of about 3.5 kilometers. We walked the entire route in about an hour with two kids, ages 4 and 11. We met quite a few people along the way, but I wouldn't say it's a touristy place, as there are no proper signs along the way, so it makes sense to download a map of the trail beforehand. At some point the trail splits and in my opinion it is better to keep to the left first so that on the way back up you can walk along the rocks, which is much easier and safer if you are going...
